Some bulbs are advertised as being 50% brighter than standard for the same current draw. How does this work then?

They are not 50% brighter than standard, its just that the standard ones are 50% less brighter than these ones. ;)

Just bought some from Halfords and they are about as useful as a flaccid member in a brothel. Waste of money.

To be fair, they are more designed for people to see you, rather than for you to see with

As Alan said.

The PIAA's are a waste of money!

Did I

Sorry DD, but unless you have miss read something that I wrote, but IMHO the PIAA Extreme White PowerSport bulbs are excellant. Even if they are over £25 each :spitfire

The Phillips and any other of 50% brighter bulbs are second to rubbish in terms of adding extra illumination, as I mentioned in my second post in this thread.

I looked and looked ....

And then realised that you can't have '50% less brighter'.

They may be 50% duller, however ....

But the PIAA lamps really do seem a better bet - but at the price they should be.

Oh come on, they're bright enough already. Just that they're out there, and gently calling me

I fitted a set of Phillips GT150 bulbs and am pretty pleased with the results. They're defo better than the stock ones, tho' by all accounts, it's more to do with the lense than the bulbs in these matters. Anyway, I think the 150s' have been a worthwhile investment (from Nippy Normans).

Smeggy, this was a generic bulb question. Although I have the 1150, I perhaps should have pointed out that I have had the BTBR light set-up added. These are bright anyway, but you know what it's like?

piia piaa

:D see.. they're calling you as well

Strictly speaking, if the standard ones are 50% less bright then the new ones must be 100% brighter :D

Just Call me mr pedantic :mmmm

Am in a similar position myself, although don't like to admit that anything on the 1150 isn't superb
I have to concede the fact that the lights leave a little to be desired.
Assuming I will be riding throughout these dark mornings and even darker evenings (note.....must emigrate next year), is it a waste of money uprating the standard bulbs with "brighter" ones or is the sensible option to have additional lights.

If so if anyone can please save me the time (and cash) by recommending a good set of piaa's to buy for the 1150GS I would be most grateful.

p.s. I will be working extre overtime to get them fitted by someone who knows what they are doing with electrics otherwise there might well be :tears

I meant as you said, 'better to be seen with'

And I stand by the PIAA's are a waste of money. They may give a nice colour, but certainly not 30 quid worth, no where near!
