The Land Rover bike

I have come to the conclusion that this machine is like a Land Rover. Can probably go anywhere, but rarely gets taken there. Is as common as muck but not seen often out and about. Nowadays newer models owned by yuppies and such like, the older ones found refuge with owners that value simplicity and a workhorse. Some have massive mileage, others barely go around the block. In order to keep it running parts needs replacing often and sometimes in warranty.

Should probably be a bit more specific and say Range Rover as the original Land Rover models were generally genuine workhorses whereas the Range Rovers and other variants are invariably playing the role of Chelsea tractor.

I take it your either /or skint , annoyed or bitter …I use mine (1250 GS) for the road , trials bike for the roots , Enduro for the climbs , I do 6 to 8000 a year on pure leisure riding uk / Europe , no commuting as have a van . I understand the old bikes were good but......please stop blarting on about the good old days , they have gone .
It is no longer a tractor/ workhorse , its a bike that performs and will be used.Im off in a 3 weeks to do a quick 3000 round Spain (with a tyre stop change)

That’s a bit fucking vague ? Though some GSs don’t even do 10 miles a year

Depends on when its in the dealers lol ,,, its more work related as sometimes big refit contracts can make riding hard as getting back from far away can be a pain
I can do around 1400 in a month , well 4 sundays

This thread is not a dick measuring contest. But the memo didn't reach you it seems. It is simply about the similarities between a British manufacturer famous for manufacturing unreliable vehicles but can break down where no other 4x4 breaks down and the BMW GS/GSA of the R series engines that seems to suffer the same fate sort of. In case you missed it in the news, BMW have admitted that warranty repairs are hurting the company financially. That bit was in the news.

take your pick. I don't think there is any young urban professional that can afford a GS/GSA, a house in the city, a kid and a LR or that Kia SUV. One has to go and it won't be the SUV. Most owners of GS/GSA are 40 plus years old.
