The LED headlight glass.

I deliberately didn't buy a TE model as I didn't want to pay a premium for a headlight I rarely use and which would cost a fortune to replace. £5 for a replacement H7 bulb seemed like much better value :P

Indeed, the wisest option

That would be my choice too

Can't see the point as I rarely ride at night

....and don't have a 1200 WC....

:blast

If I did though, it would be without LED anything

Just a basic version, having ridden one a few times

All the gadgets are like toys @ Christmas - they rarely get touched by the time January comes :)

So what's your point, Chris ?

Are we not allowed to comment or express an opinion, unless we own something ?

Be a very bland forum, if that was the case

But LED headlights are "so now":hide

Can't you spec everything individually?

I specced up a basic GSA with a few extras such as cruise control, heated grips, LED headlight, driving lights and LED indicators it was a grand short of an all singing, all dancing TE :blast

May as well have one with all the bells & whistles :thumby:

A pic of mine removed for you:
i-T6fh2wS-L.jpg

the plastic lens cover is not bonded to the unit and could easily be removed by tweaking the tabs
HOWEVER, because of the fact that nobody is sure that the cover is available OR NOT as part of the surround, I am not willing to test removal:D

That's interesting. So it seems that the plastic cover is a replaceable part but BMW are not listing it as a part that can be purchased separately.

I would imagine that the parts list available to the dealers is somewhat more extensive than that offered to the customers. Or is that being a little cynical.

I think your find its a sealed unit as per the last model which was glass and mine cracked too at least the new plastic ones will flex more

So you don't use headlights when it rains then

Yep and normal H4 bulbs seem just as good

I actually think the new GS WC with LED, isn't that distinctive and bright when you see one coming towards you

If you see a new GS WC in a gaggle of oncoming bikes, then some of the other bikes with normal lights, are just as visible

Just my take, that's all:D

Carry on:thumb2

When riding in rain the headlight is normally to be seen rather than to see :nenau

The bike with the best headlights I've ever owned was a VFR VTEC as its pair of H7 bulbs, or two pairs if main beam was on, were better than any car I've driven.

I think LED headlight is a gimmick too far at the moment considering the £900 premium, especially considering that my old GS went out once in the dark in 12k miles.

Yes I know it's a sealed unit. It will be bonded to housing with sealent or adhesive strip during manufacture. But just as your whindsceen can be replaced by cutting the bonding this head lights plastic cover could be removed and replaced.

Of course some one will say again, "Its not listed separately" but that's a separate issue and one that is potentially solvable.

Calm down me ol'fruit. I'm only joshing!

Blimey, just read the back story on this thread and WTF is going on there ?

Buy whatever you want guys and comment if you feel the need, it's all good. Yes I bought the TE and love all the bell whistles and fancy LED head light. One of my favourite bits of the bike to be honest. Do I need these things ? No, to be honest, but all those extra bits kind of make my day riding home after a hard shift. Shallow and materialistic maybe but I couldn't give a monkeys.

Whatever makes you feel good, and that's a very individual thing.

The lens comes off with a few screws, but no one has identified a source that sells just the lens yet. I'm sure that will happen eventually. The light is substantially more powerful than any halogen I've ever seen, so if you don't like screwing around with additional lighting its a nice option. You probably would not want to ride around 3rd world countries with it, however, since you would worry about it being stolen every time you park overnight.
Sent from my nokia 1020.

the bezel is easily removed. The clear lens seems to be held on with tabs.

not brave enough to pry that off.

the LED light is very trick , have to say.

.

I agree the light is top quality. Almost as good as the old twin lights from the GSXR. The spread of the drip is very good and perfectly even. The high beam is a little too narrow in focus but that gives me an excuse for some spot lights :thumb2

I like the look of these. I was thinking to fit them to the engine bars.
