The Motorcyclist's Guide to Scotland book - J.G. Fergusson

Can I throw into the mix
For anyone heading up that way to come off the M9 at the Knockhill turn off which is J4 and head over to Auchterader then Crieff and then to Dunkeld

Its a great route and saves time on the M9 /A9

Have you done the Quaich Road from Amulree to Kenmore ? You weren't that far away from there when I seen you around Aberfeldy/Weem a couple years back.

Indeed

Thats my route when I stay in Dunkeld

Over to Kenmore on the Amulree - Quaich road which, when the weather is good, has some spectacular views from the top. Nip along the Killin road then hang a right over Ben Lawyers to Glen Lyon then up over Rannoch and along the Tummel road to Killikrankie
Its a good route with a bit of everything

Ok
To actually add to this most excellent thread

This is the way I go when heading north and is my recommended route to get up there. Obviously you make your own way to Edinburgh and over the Forth road bridge

And a bit more

This is a nice steady day out although a tougher 130 miles than it might suggest some lovely roads and scenery with the obligatory stop at the Glen Lyon Old post office for the best scones in the world

I use Dunkeld as a base but plenty of other places all within easy reach of this route

Did the Quaich Road from Kenmore to Amulree just before lockdown. Couped the Crosstourer coming up hill out of Kenmore on a hairpin bend, wrong gear, stalled the beast & down it went :blast fortunately postie just across the road helped me haul the bulky bastard back upright. Stunning road though, watch out for those hairpins.

I knew you were old but I didn't realise you were THAT old!

That's me unloading the cans of Shell motor spirit in Fort Bill. :D Actually, I've got one of those cans in the lock up. It belonged to my brother in law's dad who WAS around at the time and rode a Norton. Great stories of riding down the A68, three abreast and passing toffees to each other across the three bikes. Or SMT buses (he was a driver) racing the competition from bus stop to bus stop from Musselburgh to North Berwick.

I'd listen to these stories!

When you visit us up here maybe.

I've still got some Castrol R from the East Fortune days.

And if you have the time, add on a loop of Loch Rannoch on the south side to the tea room at the station: http://www.rannochstationtearoom.co.uk/

South side is less busy, twistier and more scenic IMO. Just have to watch out for all the "wild" campers on the loch shore.

Thank you. Anything added to the overall Scottish routes is always welcome.

Should your Google route look like this or has my iPad done something odd to it?

You've got my abode on your map! Persie House.....

It's interesting to see how out of date some of googles streetview is out of date.

On the approach to Meiklour juction of the A93 from the Coupar Argos side you can see where it's been deforested yet cross the road to Meiklour and the woodland is still up.
