The Nippon Express

Great write up and as said brings back so many memories from our trip last year. Osaka was bonkers especially Dotonburi area. Great food ,people and clutre. Fully agree with your tips above. If I may l’d like to add a couple.
Get an E-sim as you will need google maps and translate a lot. Make sure you get a “Sueca” card for travel but it can also be used to pay for small things in shops. 7/11 is your best friend. Not like in the US but an insitution in Japan. Totally agree about the shoes and be prepared to walk a lot. I think we were averaging around 30k steps a day.
Next year we doing exactly as you say. Getting out of the cities and heading into the country proper. Going north to Okaido, exploring the “Onsens” and food.
Congrats on the future daugher in law.. 👍👍 . No excuses not to visit in future. Just beware no matter how close you get to them and their culture we will always be outsiders. Thats just the way it is there.

On the war years, working for the Japanese for almost 20 years, thats a topic that simply doesnt get raised under any circumstances..

safe travels home….its a long trip👍👍👍
