Following numerous (and some not very subtle ) hints by some members of this forum the Daithi lad & I have resolved to give up the fags for New Year -and if this goes well we might give up the cigs too

Seriously though - we're commited to this & are gonna provide a 'support network' for each other in the event that we feel a strong urge to have a sneaky smoke. Anyone else who wants to quit, & for whatever reason hasn't managed it, is welcome to partake, once they adhere to a few simple rules

As I'm all too well aware it's much easier to give up than stay off them So the additional incentive (apart from the abuse we'd get on here, obviously ) is financial. We're putting our money where our (big) mouths are

In line with earlier suggestions (and we'll be holding youse to your side of it guys!!) we're each going to contribute € 100 to charidee - GerryC suggested SVdeP & Daithi suggested ISPCC so we're going to split the proceeds - as a sign of our commitment. The charities get this money even if we go back on the smokes. But we further undertake to pay €200 if either of us quits quitting within 3 months or € 100 if it's within 6 months.

So, if you want to partake of being abstemious you have to quit on (or before) New Years Eve & agree to the financial commitment above and we'll give you all the help & support we possibly can. Between us we can beat this fcukin' addiction Even if yer not gonna quit ya can still contribute to the charity
(now if I can just get GerryC to offer to administer the money side we'll be off & running ....)

I'll start the pledge ball rolling. Unfortunately I can't join in on the giving up 'cos I never started in the first place - I've got all the other vices, just not the fags... or the sort you're talking about, anyway...

Right, if someone reliable (in GSer land? yeah, right!) can vouch for youse I'll give £50 to your charidee pot in 3 months time, after you start giving up. In other words, if you (Daithi + Jockser) are still 'clean' on 1st April 2008 you'll get the donation.

There's a good chance you'll only have to pay half of it anyway, since I wouldn't
bet on me being sucessful in our endevors.
But what might keep me off them isn't money, health or the charity side of things,
no, it's the thought of me wanting to stop for a fag on a spin and looking across at
Jockser and he grinning as he fecks off.

So, I'll pledge 100 euros to SvdP providing BOTH of youse are still off the cigs in 3 months (I'm looking at you Daithi!!).

Now, imagine how bad you'll feel if you give up and the charities don't get their money.
