Punishable by dismissal? ... sounds like pish and fart to me...

Gotta be the knock sensor ... and I've never heard of an RT with valve problems ... and as good as nobody fits engine bars to them anyway...

I love a good conspiracy theory ... there all hiding things from you!...

hats off to john armstrong and ste@ssb then :thumb2

bmw are apparently looking at harmonics from crash bars deceiving the knock sensor into retarding the timing, causing engine failure.

What about sani's harmonics on his 1150GSA, he has fitted speakers either side............................:augie

It's going to be one hell of a law suit if proven...

my favourite-

exploding RHS pistons/cylinder/heads. apparently a known problem with bmw, but they don't know for sure what causes it.
should you be unfortunate enough for this to happen to your bike, bmw may well be interested to find out what crash bars are fitted?

go on, guess why? :D

Any particular make of crashbar being slandere....sorry suspected.

How many police bikes do you deal with, whole fleets, or just the odd one or two ??. And if you haven't heard of valve or head problems ( they're fitting heads from a different model ;)) they're doing a good job of keeping it quiet, as they were hoping .

Cannons 12,000 service

About to hit 12k so need a service and 1st year inspection.

Spoke to Cannons where I bought the bike from and they said around the £235 mark.

Park Lane said around the £250 mark.

Tunbridge Wells Cooper - my local one £340 including vat.

Checked with Cannons and they confirmed that their £235 does include vat. Mentioned the price difference and they were surprised and could only offer that Coopers must be using BMW car labour rates.

Not sure what I'm expecting or wanting to get out of this post, but it does go to show that it's worth a ring round.

My 1150GSA had its 12,000 service at Cannons 3 months ago. The final cost was £323 including VAT. To be fair to them I asked them to also do any additional things required by the Annual Inspection. (changing the front & back brake fluid - £74 plus VAT). So taking that off the £323 itcomes to £236 so their quote to you was genuine. The bike also ran great after the service.

The whole thing was doubly worth it to me as their mechanic found a bloody great gash :mad:in the tread of the rear tyre (which was new and only done 400 miles) and which could have caused me to have a serious blowout!
So although I am not a particular fan of Cannons they turned up trumps for me.:beerjug:

I've just booked my R1200 GSA in for its first service at my local Coopers Mini dealership and was quoted £99.00 initially until he remebered that the first service requires a brake fluid change whereby the quote increased to £140 inc. Vat. I thought I would be cheeky and ask for some discount and was promptly given 10% off bringing the all in price to £134.00. Not bad I thought. Even more so after reading some of the prices quoted in some posts on this thread.

£170.02 for 600 mile service

On Friday I paid £170.02 for a 600 mile service for my Adventure at North Oxford. I was told that the final drive oil had been changed, but that it would not need changing again. If so, it seems the drain bolt has been repositioned just to ease the 600 mile service.

I believe that the initial service is free in the USA. I understand this is because the warranty is conditional on the first service being undertaken by an official BMW dealer. Hence charging for the service would be a de facto charge for the warranty, which is illegal. Perhaps one of our American readers will comment on the correctness of my belief.

From what I can recall from Advrider, our friends in the US have had to pay for the first service for a number of years now.

£354.29 inc vat this for a bike with ABS £290.76 without ABS inc vat

I had the 6000 mile and first annual inspection done on my bike last week at Bahnstormer.

I phoned round and got the following quotes, told all dealers reg no and that it was 1200 GSA without abs.

Bahnstormer: £220
CW: £240
Vines £313.79

I specifically asked Bahnstormer when I took it in about brake fluid, I was going to request they didnt do it, saving me a bit of cash as I think its unneccessary on a 12 month old bike. They said it didnt need doing.

Anyway, I see the guy through the window changing the brake fluid.

Then the bill comes - £298 (quoted £220) :spitfire

At first they tried to blame the increase on the recent oil price rises  but it was because they had changed the brake fluid. Apparently the schedules have been changed and some bikes have it done at 3 yrs some at 1 :nenau

Anyway the service guy (Greg I think) worked on the price and got it down to £218 so it was all good in the end. :thumb2

Spoke to Darren at CW yesterday and booked both our gs's in at end of April for an 18k service, he told me it would be £250 per bike and that would inc the vat and parts, hope its no more than that as I had forgotten one of the bikes is also due for its mot and road tax and all just before Wales

What exactly is involved in the 18k service ?

I was told by NOG that the 600 mile service on a GSA was free apart from parts, did you pay for labour as well? £170 for parts only sounds excessive.
