The Rif.

Can anyone give me ideas for routes through The Rif, Morocco. I've got most of my other routes planned now but would like to start with The Rif. My plan is to get the ferry to Nador, (6 hours) spend one night at Nador then next morning head to Ketama, spend most of the day riding The Rif heading towards Taounate spend one night there, then next day slowly heading towards Tazekka National Park, does anyone know if can I camp here?

After that I will be using Chris Scott's book Morocco Overland book to pick my routes so that I see as much of the country as I can, keeping off the major roads where possible. I finally got my head round the book and I think it will serve me well.

Please feel free to say anything, if coming into Nador is a naff idea then please say and why, also if the national park not worth a visit tell me.

Coming from Nador I'd turn left off the N2 at Driouch or Kassita missing out Ketama which is a shit hole, from Taounate have a look around Lalla Outka.

It depends what type of route you want, tarmac or piste?

Al Hoceima is nice. To the west is the Al Hoceima National Park with tracks. Peñon de Velez is interesting see posts 3 and 4.

You can ride to Calar Idris to the west, then continue on a track that leads past the campsite, still heading west.

Al Hoceima is nice. To the west is the Al Hoceima National Park with tracks. Peñon de Velez is interesting see posts 3 and 4.

Changing the subject slightly .... I'm slightly confused as I don't have a detailed map.
When you headed west from Bouzmou (just south of Imilchil), do you know about the route turning right (north) at El Had, then a couple more rights eventually bringing you back to the R317 approx 30km or so north of Imilchil?
Or is this what you were intending?

Thinking of having a look this spring.

I know it's called El Had on Olaf, but the real name is Anergui. We were trying to get through to Anergui, then take the piste from Anergui to The Cathedral which I tried once from the other end, see http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134454

Otherwise the way into Anergui is a 1000+m descent from the north.

I was talking to someone on HUBB about this a couple of weeks ago.

Got it thanks. It's in as Cala Iris on Google earth. Going to stop now I've been at this all day and I'm only 4 days in of a four week trip, there's just sooo much to see & do !! think I may need 5 weeks.
