I have had a GS since May 2001 and thought this year I might like a change.
I tried the 1200 earlier in the the year, lovely engine and gearbox but the restyling does nothing for me personally.

Then last Friday I had a ride on a Pan 1300.
Nice engine and snicky snicky gearbox, wind noise no better than the GS, even toying with the height of electic screen made little difference.
Seat was ok but bugger me what a heat from the engine reaches the rider.
I was medium rare by the time I was back at the dealers.
I would be unwilling to put up with that for very long and would hate to think what it would be like on a Euro jaunt to somewhere hot.
No doubt Pan riders will tell me different.

Then,

wait for it,

Then I tried a Triumph Rocket 111.

Imagine being crucified to the nose cone of an exocet and hitting the go button.
Whoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooosssssssh......

Dear o dear o dear.

Not bad to sit on for the rider anyway, legs a bit like the natural child birth position and arms outstreched in a bilateral nazi salute.
Very pretty to look at and docile on a gentle throttle but hit the open road and time goes into reverse.

Enterprise has less warp than this.
But because you are unable to brace for acceleration forces you end up hanging on to the handlebars like washing on a line.
The forces are tremndous and it accelerates onwards from 80mph as hard as it does from 30mph.
Absolutely amazing power and torque.
Cornering has to be done with a bit of caution to save leaving expensive metal on the road.
Not much luggage carrying capabilities.
Not with my wife anyway.

So back home on the GS then.
It felt like a moped after the Rocket 111.
But soon I was back in the groove, rolling of and on the wave of torque, flicking effortlessly from bend to bend, 50mpg,time,gear,fuel and temp all there for me to see.
Very commfy seat, loads of luggage space with Givi cases and I was happy.

I will keep it for bit longer yet.

I did exactly the same with an FJR Yamaha then a R1200C BWM Cruiser.

Getting back on the GS was a delight !

Both good news and bad news, isn't it ?
