The Strontian Gathering (NOT the Dent Event) 19th - 21st May 2023

I've just checked Booking.com and didn't find anything at a reasonable cost within 8 miles!

Sorry Micky but this isn't the best choice of location for the numbers we usually get turning up at Dent.

I have to agree although date might not be workable for me.
Shame as I do enjoy meeting up with everyone and having a few beers.

You have a point Iain but I think the numbers will be self regulating to some extent. Strontian is well off the beaten track and only accessible by ferry or the long way round via the Mallaig road.

If you're stuck for accommodation, give the Ariundle Centre a call. Their prices are around £30 pp pn and they provide decent food too.

Ta Pete, i'll try them.

I'm heading to Misano WSBK early June, then Mugello MotoGP, on to Northern Spain with Arsey mid-June so this would have fitted in nicely but I've stopped camping since Assen last year.

Happy New Year to you when it comes!

Try the centre Pete mentioned, I also found self catering and bnbs available, some would need folk to share but that should work. Not everything is in booking.com, some are airbnb, some just via Google, some by asking the hotel for places they know.

Sorry Micky not going to be able to make this due to stamina issues on anything over 100 miles at present. Still hoping to get more stamina as time goes by, maybe next year fingers crossed.

I could come to your place instead, break my journey, and you could show me the highlights of your area!

Would I need to bring some DIY tools with me????

Highlight would be seeing me.;) No tools required apart from yourself.

I know Ian, I did say we can't suit all of the people all of the time :blast

Having just got in after driving home from Strontian I can quite categorically state that there are a lot of places to stop within a 20 minute walk of the village, I walked past a lot of them when I was out with the dog yesterday so I’d be looking on air bnb as a starter plus there are a couple of bunkhouses heading towards the Ariundle Centre.

Heatherbank guesthouse looked ok but that’s a bit far for tired old legs at closer to a 40 minute walk and you certainly wouldn’t need to worry about bike security :D

Yes please Mick, 2 in the tent :thumb2

And to you and yours Iain. Lang may yer lum reek! :thumb2

I got back very late last night after a 14 drive from south Wales (M74 closed at Abington and it took me over 2 hours to cover what would have been a 4 mile distance) and the Strontian hotel is already fully booked!!!!

I'll move to plan B now.

You passed me then :D i was comming back down through that lot - i filtered southbound lol :)

I got back at 4:15

Clear run as far as Birmingham, then it all went to rat shit, :D Awful weather, heavy rain, wind,

I'll do a rant write up later ;)

You escaped the drop in temperatures last night which left Micky locked out of his van. It didn’t reach 0c until I was past Loch Lomond and stayed at -4c from Kingshouse until Tyndrum. I had a nice uneventful drive home apart from the dog deciding she needed a shit so started letting out bad news farts for 30 minutes until I stopped at the Services just before Kendal :barf

Attendees

I've started an attendees list on my first post .... keeping it simple :thumby:

I'll keep it up to date as Peeps post on here.
Thirteen so far. If you know any different let me know please :thumb

The Chalet can sleep up to six, but for comfort suggested to keep it at four. So if three or four blokes (or ladies for that matter) want to dive in there it'll keep it at a very reasonable price per person
Totally self contained ... WC, shower, cooker, fridge etc. :thumby:

Trying to coerce Brut33 to take on the Challet with FatAl +1 ... rather than take up a hut and an hotel room.

Will be cheaper for them ... we can keep an eye on them, albeit the single malt will be Ben Aldi or Loch Lidle :D

I'll be getting some 'Strontian (not the Dent Event) 2023' decals made, and will personally deliver one to Margaret. Alastair told me to go and give her one
