The Strontian Gathering (NOT the Dent Event) 19th - 21st May 2023

Probably best not to rely on long range weather forecasts , but....predictions are for a very warm and dry April / May :augie

Full of what? :D

As Iain said, you'll be missed Al.

Stu will probably top it up with tea.

Thanks Pete, I was very much looking forward to this, but something of an unseen personal problem has manifested itself. I'll hopefully get to another social in the near future.

Alternative option.

I was having a poke around on Google satellite to see if there were any interesting looking track or trails near Strontian that I didn't already know about...and something I definitely didn't know about popped up ( no pun intended )

Not too far from Glenfinnan, and with the prediction of a heatwave in May :D

Just read that Corran Ferry is out of action for the foreseeable……
Relief ferry Maid of Glencoul broke down this morning with serious drivetrain issues and will need a tow to dry dock for repairs
The original MV Corran ferry is already undergoing a refit, so no boat at present

Maybe out for a good few weeks or months
Highland Council are deliberating what to do

I know - I have ridden & driven it - a few times
Just relaying the news today, that was all
So you could prepare your plans

And what's your excuse for not coming ? I took a very circuitous way to Dent last year, well over 300 miles and almost 9 hours..and 2 up, absolutely loved it.
You have ridden and driven the long way up / down to Strontian before so what's so different now :augie

Just had a look at the A830/A831 that looks an interesting detour.
forty eight miles from Ft William.

Nothing, it wasn’t on my list of GS events - as I will be at the SSDT - 2/3 weeks before this one
Just the ferry is crucial to the Ardnamurchan peninsula folk and links
Plus the SSDT is in 3 weeks and the Corran ferry is used on one of the days for the 250 competitors and 2000 support/spectators
I just thought some travellers to Strontian event may like to know the recent ferry woes, so they can allow extra time to their plans for the detour and inconvenience
Plus I have been told that there are significant logging operations on the road on the west side of the loch, opposite FW ….at the present time
Don’t shoot the messenger?
