A fresh thread for people to post their woes, concerns, aspirations, joy, disappointments and unrestrained, piss boiled anger in…..

The switch to the new app (currently undergoing Beta testing) will happen in ‘mid-June 2023’.

I have a Gold Lifetime for the planning tool. Looking at the email, when they merge the navigation and mobile app (Next). You can still use the mobile app (next) for free, but you won't get the navigation bit. If you already have a lifetime navigation subscription, you will get the combined app for free.

That’s correct.

I am assuming that as I already have the Gold lifetime planning subscription, I will only get the free bit of the combined mobile and nav app and if I want the whole thing I will need to pay, think the pre order fee is £50 odd.

That’s correct, too.

I’m a route planner gold lifetime member.
I’m totally confused as to what I’ll be left with after the switch over.

Ive only become a lifetime gold member in the last few months.
if the switchover means "lifetime" becomes 4 Months i will not be happy!

Just read this

Already have MRA Navigation Lifetime?
Then you will automatically have access to MRA Navigation in 2023 Next Lifetime. So you do NOT have to pay again.

That’s good to know

I currently enjoy MRA Navigation Lifetime and MRA Routeplanner Basic membership. What features will be available to me come June 2023?

MRA Routeplanner Basic….

I think it’s more a question of what you miss out from, by subscribing to the basic version. But hey, I guess if you’ve not felt you’ve missed anything in the past, then you’ll not miss much in the future :beerjug:

The switch to the new combined app is gathering pace, with lots of new features being ‘turned on’ in the latest beta test versions.

Likewise, a lot of the glitches in the past beta test versions have been dealt with, along with a take-up of some of the better suggestions.

Next Wednesday, there is a Teams (or similar) catch-up for those that have contributed to the beta tests. If anything additionally interesting comes out of it, I’ll post it here.

Looking forward to some new features before my big trip into Europe in July.
MRA was already excellent, nice to see they are not just resting on their laurels :thumb

They have worked pretty hard on the new but, seemingly, avoided pandering to every ‘Must have’ request that came along. In short, they have stuck to but enhanced what the previously separate app’s can do.

I spent ages today trying different combinations of switching on helmet comms to iPhone and Garmin 346 as I had no voice prompts to then find out that this is a known issue on the Beta, arrgghh! Anyway, good to know it's not just me :) Other than that it is coming along nicely, there is something quite handy about not having to faff about transferring a route to the Garmin (or other) and then finding it routes differently

I have a question I currently have MRA Routeplanner Gold, the subscription is £35 a year. What is changing in June 2023, my subscription expires 14th June.

Is there going to be a better option come June 2023, if anybody knows would be interested what others think.

I have read further information are they saying that MRA Next Navigation is combining MRA Routeplanner and the mobile app in one option???

Thanks

I'm also on the Beta for Next but haven't had too much of a chance yet to really use it in anger. I did use it for a recent trip to Scotland and it was pretty solid, although I do feel there's a fair amount of glitches still to iron out but hopefully that'll be done in time for the switch over.

I’ve just had a pretty positive experience with the Next Gen beta app.

Just come back from a holiday in the US with the good lady, about 2300 miles covered by car through California, Arizona and Nevada. I’d plotted all my routes, lots avoiding freeways with MRA and the rental car had CarPlay.

I had the odd crash, luckily when it wasn’t at a critical junction, but other than that, using offline maps, it performed really well guiding me on my planned routes through the various national parks, Wild West mining ghost town, Grand Canyon and the museums / POI I wanted to hit.

I am really thinking I am at a point where I could comfortably ditch my XT and just go with MRA Next for bike navigation.

The beta Next app has not been without its teething problems, all of which have been shared on the excellent, very public, forum. The vast majority of these have now been ironed out and some of the better “You should make it do this” suggestions have been taken up.

It is now very good. Coupled to the easy to use RouteLab route creation software, they have made an excellent product. As to whether yiu shoujd replace an XT or any other decent GPS device with it entirely? That‘s a whole different debate. But, if anyone already uses a phone exclusively for navigation, I’d definitely take the Next app up.

I'm on the Beta program but not had much chance to use it until the other day. In my Volvo, the satnav is good, but it literally only plots the most direct journey (as most car satnavs I assume), so if you want to take an interesting route, on diverse roads you have to break the route up into sections with individual destinations, then put each new destination in as you get to the previous one (if there is a better way to do it, I haven't figured it out.
As MRA had recently added the facility for Android Auto into the Next Beta I decided to give it a try for a journey I was about to take. I plotted a complex route in MRA on the phone, then connected it to the car via Android Auto, and it worked flawlessly.

Yes, at its most basic, it is a simple A to B, route creator.

I have now signed up for the ‘works’ to run on iPad/iPhone. However two major features for me of Pocket Earth are the ease of rubber-banding routes and contours in it’s OSM mapping. When I hear these are available in MRA I will probably jump in with both feet

Some time ago it was said that an on board routing engine would be available for mobile devices. I had my reservations about this but they insisted in an email that the project was still in their sights and doable - now THAT would be a killer feature

I’m off on my jollies in a week or so, in a car that has no satnav so I’ll be using the phone for nav.

Should I just use the existing MRA and the current Navigation app, or switch the the new “next” app?
