And it is true I do it many times and one of those times with a forum member The_smudger.

It's a small track but worth every mille till there.

Interesting to see 3rd and 5th places both in the UK, who'd have thought it.

It's an interesting list in how utterly silly it is.

The road in Portugal looks OK, quite nice in fact (I did a fly through using streetview) but I'm pretty certain it's FAR from being the best driving road in Portugal, let alone in the world :blast

Ah well, it's all advertising and marketing I 'spose. so good luck to them :)

Have the people that make these 'best in the world' claims travelled EVERY road in the World?

Why would you need to?

Off the top of your head, would you rather ride route 70 from St Louis to Kansas city across the flat prairies or ride the Transfăgărășan highway ?

"I did a fly through using street view"

Words fail me.
How about waiting till you've actually ridden it before pronouncing on its quality?

But you're talking of roads you already know. To make a fresh claim to the 'best in the world' means something has been newly discovered. On that basis I'm sure there must be many roads that haven't been discovered by the claim makers.

As for the Transfăgărășan, it falls a long way short of its claim to fame, in my opinion!

I'm not 'pronouncing on its quality', but it's fucking obvious from the ride through or even the map that it's nowhere NEAR the best driving road in the world....only the most gullible fucktard in the biggest box of mixed fucktards presented to Lord fucktard at Xmas would ever believe that it could be, just by examining what very little evidence we have...If you can read a bloody map, you can see that it's at best a 'nice' or 'pretty' road, yet words fail you?

Go look at a McDonald's menu, and I guess on your assumptions that a fucking quarterpounder with cheese could be acclaimed as the healthiest meal in the world :blast

Words fail me my hairy starfish

I know neither of them.

I do know that I'd bet my life that this route in Portugal is NOT the best driver's road in the world, even from a look on the map.

Far from it.
But I'd wait till I'd eaten one before deciding if it was a great meal rather than looking at a picture on the fecking Internet

I have ridden that road and Bill is right - plenty of better roads in many places. At least from a biking viewpoint, I never measured roads the way Avis have done.

I have not driven the first but have 2 and 3 and they are shite against the C1311 in Spain

The C1311 is the best road in the world Mick - I should know, you need to ride it to reach my holiday cottage :) - but that video is of the 'boring' old N260 heading west to Sort.

Take a look at this vid to see the comparison - separates the men from the boys or what

Including the driver of this Ferrari last year :jager

PS I say 'boring' old N260 simply because lazy people ride it and think they've 'done' the Pyrenees - they know nothing :D

PPS the video is of almost all of the drive from my house to where we met for coffee Mick, no wonder we were late :thumby:

I knew you would put me right Simon. Having a 28km drive like the c1311 up to your home must be awful !!!!
See you as soon as I doooooo

I've ridden plenty of roads that are similar to all of these. Much like musicians, it's impossible to pick out one as the best. They all have their own character and features. For getting from one place to another the route Napolean is fantastic, the Rhonda road down to Marbella is also special (I did this one in a Porsche boxster at a brisk pace and it was sublime). I have also done some fantastic roads in Portugal, Germany and Italy. The road up the back of monte Baldo is superb but not fast and it's short, but still fantastic.

Golly, I didn't know Porche made amphibious cars! :bounce1

@ Mick - yes, life is hard . . . :)

Update

It's OK, but nowt special

There are some fab roads East of Pinhao towards the Spanish border. Cars seen at a rate of about one per hour!
