Hi Mick, happy New Year to you. Morrocco is still in my plans for the bike, I'm liking the look of the Wildcat tours, so 2015 is my target for that. Trails in Spain also sounds good, though with finishing the bike and a load of building work at home, means my playtime budget for 2014 isn't very big. Are you doing a guided thing in Andalucía or a DIY jobbie? I lost my sister to cancer this year, so I am planning to do a LE-JOG sometime in June, non stop ( apart from fuel) ,with a target time of 18 hours, hopefully raising some cash for Macmillan nurses. I'll have a look at the dates for the weekend, it'd be good to meet some more fellow Airhead lovers.

Marcus Sids may come in handy as a few before yer start from Lands end or maybe a party after yer finish :friday:beer:
Its in Devon and sort of on route :clap

Yes, the tool box idea is really good. Slightly frustratingly now, I've got builders at home with scaffolding up, so even if it was running, I couldn't get it out onto the road.

I've had it running, it sounds amazing, but some electrical gremlins have resulted in the need for a new wiring loom, which I've had to wait 3 weeks from Germany,it arrived this week and will be going in this weekend. I'm hoping the charging problem will also go away with the new loom which will mean ready for an MOT sometime next week. The seat also had to go back for a modification so I can fit it to the frame. I've not been rushing to finish it this spring as I had a car accident at the end of January, the result is an injury to my right knee , meaning I couldn't ride it even if it had been ready. The knee has responded to treatment so with some more injections I'm hoping to be 100% fit to ride over the next 2 months. It WILL be finished this year, and it WILL have been worth it. Buggered if I'd do it again though.:augie

Sorry to hear about the accident. I broke my ankle last summer, two days after the Wee-Kend and didn't manage to ride at all until last summer after that. How did you find the fairing? It does look very nice! WHat was up with your seat...hoping to avoid anything with mine if they were the same.

I'm thinking of re-wiring the whole bike using one of those m-unit things. A few guys on advrider have used them and have only good things to say. I'd also like to loose a few wires and tidy things up so it may make sense. Yours has the 40mm carbs right? Do you think your power band has changed? I ask beacuse a lot of people say that 32mm carbs are better for low to mid torque and 40mms for high... I'm more after low and mid range torque.

The Motogadget 'M Unit' is an excellent piece of kit, I've just wired my Caff racer with one along with the 'M lock'.

For anything except across the Sahara at full throttle 32mm Bings are I think an improvement for 1000cc,

I've got both and I know which I prefer! (both on high compression engines)!

My loom is all ready for putting on the bike, I've had to add some bits to take care of the electronic dash , so to make it easier I've prepped it prior to fitting it to the bike. I've got 40mm bings on the recommendation of Moorespeed as I've not only gone for his high compression pistons, but a race cam ,headwork and balanced crank too. It will go like a greased weasel, right on the edge of what the chassis can cope with. The seat base didn't quite line up with the Moorespeed subframe, so Richie has cut a piece out of the base and is making an ally plate for the seat to line up with the subframe so we can use dzeus fasteners to attach it. Hoping to fire it up tomorrow night, and also hoping the charging issue has gone away.

I have yet to play with the dash bit and bobs so may call on your experience when time comes! I also have the pistons and head work but no balanced crank or cam... my 40mm bings are all renewed and ready to go. Once I get the stems for the clamps sorted and delivered I@ll start putting it all together... I'll quickly find out about the seat then i guess! Be sure to take photos of your seat fix incase I must do the same.

Marcus,

Did you go for the moorespeed Ignition? I'm curious how you get on with it. I think I have the same spec engine as you except I went for dellortos. It does go very well and has a big plus of a marked improvement in fuel consumption.

Hi Rob, no, I'm still on standard ignition. The Moorespeed one maybe an upgrade once I've got over the shock of how much I've spent on this one already!!!!. Richie did comment that the fuel economy was miles better on his tuned engines, I assume at the same cruising speed, the engine was working less hard and breathing more efficiently.

I've had a persistent issue with pinking around 3k despite pushing the jetting to the point it was hunting. The only way to cure it is to back the ignition of a ridiculous amount. I'm sure it's the cam and that I wouldn't have the issue with the Moorespeed ignition.

Performance wise it's great and feels like an 1100, certainly goes like one. At 70 I've virtually got the throttle closed. The standard GS gearing is wrong for the engine though, I go through the gears as though it was a jap bike.

I did a fairly quick run to Cheddar earlier in the year and averaged low 50's to the gallon. Quite a surprise considering I wasn't hanging about and have Dells fitted. I suppose the power to weight is so much better (despite me sitting on it).

Yes, all sorted at the back end of the year. We've had a huge charging issue with it, I've ended up replacing the whole charging system with OE parts ( fark the rotors are expensive !!! ) I've done about 500 miles on it and it goes like a greased weasel. I buggered my knee over Christmas so it's not been out since early December. I've got to change the oil and Richie's going to tighten the heads down prior to a final set up on a dyno. It rides well, handles well too and sounds fantastic. Perhaps I should bring it down and you can have a go on it?

Thats generous... but seeing as I didn't change my 'details' per my avatar thingy... my new location in Canada may be a bit far. But by all means... feel free to drop over anytime!

Curious what the charging issue was. I have a few more parts to get from Richie before I can put things back together am and toying with the idea of various new 'leccy bits. Would also love to see your seat base fix as I'm counting on having a similar issue.

Good to hear you have gotten to drive it!

Ah OK, Canada is a bit of a long jaunt even fir a Moorespeed bike. The seat has been a bit if a faff too, Richie is going to fabricate me some longer Zeuss fasteners as the ones he had were too short to fit in my frame. I love the bike, but the fact that everything has to be made specially for it gets a bit wearing after a while. It's tucked away for the winter right now, but will be dug out of hibernation soon, so I'll have a couple of jobs for Richie to do. I'll post some pics of the seat base once we have it 100% sorted.

Good job. Remind him (and I'll do the same) to make two three sets of seat things as I'll be needing two of them for my bikes!
