There once was an ugly duckling - The tale of D468ABL

I will sort the carbs out for you when I do the exhaust, that explains why you had a lot of problems fitting them and the air trunks.

Latest update, I'm still waiting for Richie Moore to get a slot to make the exhaust and a couple of other pieces of fabrication needed. In the meantime I've fitted the beautifully re built carbs ( dipped, blasted, all new innards and and good scrub up) and also fitted the lovely Migstand. I prefer a sidestand as due to a car crash in 1992, my wrists and hands don't function quite as they should and I struggle to get a laden bike onto a centre stand. The OE comedy sidestands are hopeless, so an adjustable Migstand was the only way to go.It's beatifully made and has two modes, spring back ( like Ducati's) or manual, I've gone for manual. I've reconciled myself to the fact that the bike will only be ready for spring and I've already started an Alps trip planner for June.Tine to give it a good thrashing.

Carb to airbox rubbers are in the wrong place. The plastic elbow from the airbox goes directly on to the back of the carb. The rubber sleeves go from where the plastic elbow pipe exits the airbox.
Turn all your carb mounting jubilee clips around so they're underneath.
Thats how they should be.
Nice job on the project so far - looking forward to seeing pics when its done

Thanks Skywalker, no wonder i had trouble getting it all to fit :augie It's been nearly 3 years since I started taking the thing apart and I had issues with remembering quite a few things now I'm putting stuff back on. I'll put this one down to age and brain fade.:comfort:D

Excellent project Shurv, thanks for taking the trouble to take pics and share with us, its great to watch that old machine rise again.

I'm slowly getting to the front of the queue at Moorespeed for some workshop time.I'm waiting for them to fabricate the exhaust, then some work on the tank fittings, fabricate a bracket to hold the Acewell leccy speedo unit, put heavier springs and oil in the forks,I'm having a different cam put in giving more lift and duration than the BMW 336 cam I've got in it at the moment. Once it's running it;s off for an MOT then a few hours on the dyno to set it up.Then the tank and plastics go off fot a full Marlborough paint job ( that'll take 4 weeks). So plenty to do yet but getting there.I'll post some pics when it gets started. It's gonna be a flyer when I finally get it.:D

i'm liking that

Ohh I was getting proper giddy then, any chance of some more recent pics??
got the makings of a very handsome bike that !:beerjug: :drool

Instead of lengthening the swingarm & keeping the standard UJ, would fitting a shock with more travel be a better option if the UJ had a wider range of travel? That way the swingarm could be kept shorter ( & overall bike length) for enduro type stuff.
Would it be theoretically possible to fit a UJ with a wider range of travel if one existed?
Am I barking up the wrong tree here?:nenau

Moorespeed have promised me I'll have it ready for my birthday ( 10th March). No pressure Richie!!!!! Will post piccies when she is finally up and running along with a spec sheet and dyno stats.

Update. Richie picked it up on Saturday, so I'll have it back ready for final assembly very soon.I'll take more pics when it comes back, before and during putting all the last bits n bobs on.She's gonna be amazing...............:beerjug::D

Moorespeed still have it unfortunately.Richie's made the exhaust, and sorted the headlight and designed and made a new fairing for it, it needs the seat making and fitting, then some fittings for the tank fabricating, then paint. The forks need some modding then final assembly.Once fully built it'll need an MOT then a few hours on the dyno to set it up.It's the trouble with a full on special, everything has to be made for it, I refused to fit any bodged up old parts, there's too many lashed up airheads around for that.I fitted the engine 2 years ago and I've been hanging on waiting for Moorespeed to finish the bits I don't have the talent to do.I'm really hoping that I'll get it soon.
