Thermal recommendations

I Got some "no name" ones from Matalan a couple of years ago - less than a tenner for a long sleeve top and long johns. Really toasty!

I'm hoping to get some more this weekend as it's time the originals were washed!

I bought two sets of these:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=38385&item=6742915583&rd=1

They're ridiculously cheap and they're superb. As a committed gear freak, I've probably tried every type of thermal underwear, including the rather expensive and admittedly very good Patagonia Capilene stuff.

Buy those one on ebay, so long as they're your size. At £10.00 a set, you can't lose.

Again...I have no connection whatsoever with the seller.

Helly Hansen - the blue ones with the white stripes down the sleeves. Top kit and works brilliantly. I've worn out a few sets over the years and worn them in temperatures below -30 deg C (had a coat on top mind:D ).

I got Pringle thermals from Matalan last autumn - so dont know if they will still be on their shelves as they tend to swap stock frequently.

cheap - about £10 an item I seem to remember and VERY toasty. Out in -1 earlier this week and i had those, Hein Gericke pants, and t- shirt and long sleeved rugger shirt on and was well warm.

Another vote for Helle Hanson, North Cape are good too! :)

I sent the wife shopping for a set of thermals for me last year.

She got me a set of Jack Wolfskin ones.

They're great on the bike, but far too warm indoors, so you boil in the pub.

Here :)

Natural fibres rule....

....but the stuff that comes out of worms bottoms usually has my bottom coming out of it by the third wash. (And unspeakable friability issues fourth.)

So:-

The best a man can get:-

Loads of tech for your buck with this playtex type; but not yet as good as mother natures yarn:-

<iframe frameborder="1"height="700"scrolling="auto"src="http://www.backcountry.com/store/CWX0008/c11/s100000006/CW-X-Pro-Top-Long-Sleeve-Mens.html"width="800"></iframe>

On a simiar note, once worn on top, ventile cotton makes Goretex seem decidedly a damp squib thereafter.

Thermals

I am a diver and I got a set of Fourth Element Xeotherm for long periods in the water. I have been using them on the bike as well and it really is top kit. Warm as toast and really well made. Comes complete with thermal socks of the same material and the long johns have a great foot stirrup so they don't ride up your leg.

Wash it time and time again, has'nt lost its shape, size or thermal values. Fantastic for winter riding.:D :D

went for the cheap option

Matalan micro fleece thermals, £12 for pants and long sleeve top - lets hope they work
