I'm off to Europe in a couple of weeks and I'm not looking forward to the saddle sores. I've looked at all the debates on seats and have decided that now is not the time to buy an expensive seat, I'm looking for cheap alternate mods to existing seats.

I've considered the sheep skin option but at the moment consider that abit :ymca (sorry to anyone who has these, I may yet be swayed) I found a small thermarest seat that is reall comftable to sit on but can't decide how to fit. Ideally would like it to be removable to stop it being stolen and damaged in heavy rain. Therefore the obvious "black nasty" isn't an option at the moment, this may obviously damage the seat.

Anyone got any ideas?

had the same problem.
long and short of it (after a lot of time searching this site, the entire internet and borrowing other peoples saddle "additions" - from sheepskins to inflated pillows) i bought an airhawk.
crazy money for a glorified Lilo..... butt - it works.
money well spent.

though i'm sure someone else will be along in a minute to say the exact opposite  :D

Good Luck.

I use a sheepskin (alaska leather) and cyling shorts, all day comfort.

Millets sell the thermarest copy for £5.50. it is made by Trekmates. Used one myself and they are great.

:beerjug: All very valid ideas, espically PhilM thanks, I've read the various debates about seats but currently don't want to invest quite so much money. I've already got a thermarest seat, (alittle bit more than the Blacks one) but bringing it back to my orginal question, any ideas on securing them to a seat in a semi permament non damaging way?

I've got a few ideas involving ladies hosiery..... which we won't go into but any suggestions?

See picture attached.

Half inch of Hi-density under half inch of Low-density foam wrapped on leatherette.
The two straps wrap around the steel frame that's bolted to the underside of a GS's seat.
You could even use Evostick to bond the leatherette. I put up 600k in a
day without an ache or pain using this yoke, works well.
Cost = €20.
Is that cheap enough
. ;)

I also use a thermarest for added comfort :thumb

I don't use anything to secure it to the seat - I find it stays in place by itself... it's a half length mat so my passenger gets the benefit too

If you want some velcro, give me a bell and I'll send you some. It's about an inch wide, and both sides are sticky(and it sticks like feck)so it will easily hold it in place, and not damage anything.got to be worth a try
