...but hardly a catastrophe.

Got back to the bike tonight (public bike bay at the rear of our offices) and found one of the fasteners that hold the Top Box mounting plate to the bike was gone. No way it's come loose and fell out as I'd have spotted it yesterday when I washed it. I always put my glasses case on the pillion seat so noticed it immediately.

I assume they were disturbed but either way the thick fuckers obviously assume if they'd managed to also get the other one out the top box would simply come away from the bike. :blast

It's parked in a motorcycle bay at the back of my work which is the rear of a Coventry Building Society and Barclays Bank so I was kind of hoping it was reasonably secure given all the cameras. I'm now left with the dilemma of whether to throw a bike cover over it not. They'll probably just nick that before having another go at the top box! It'll be amusing to see how much the dealer want from me for one fastener tomorrow.

Since they've obviously got their eye on it I think a Cymarc clock brace maybe in order.

Did you ask someone to check the camera footage ? You could always leave a note on the bike, with something like ' Smile for the camera' Might make them think twice. That's assuming they can read.

I'll be speaking to the facilities team tomorrow about the CCTV. It did cross my mind to leave a note and I may still do it, but I suspect they don't give a damn.

The scroates just wear hoodies to cover their faces. Camera's don't really deter them once they know they are there.

Good luck.

It's just as likely that the single fastner has worked lose and fallen out, choosing yesterday to do it. Short of you checking each of the fasteners properly when you washed the bike (but who, if anyone ever does that) you'll probably never really know. But hey, it's assumed to be scotes in hoodies; I mean what else can it be?

Check the other fasteners and add Loctite if appropriate. As you say, it's hardly a catastrophe.

You of course already knew that bods steal clocks but had chosen to ignore that apparent virtual certainty; an odd circumstance but one that you've now been prompted not to ignore any longer. A vote of thanks to BMW's vibrations (or scrotes) is due, heading off a real catastrophe.

Its not necessarily just scrotes who steal from bikes, few years ago I went to a BMF show at Kelso and I left my 1150gs parked in amongst 100's of other bikes in the main car park.

Now only a few days before I had fitted brand new head guards to the bike , when I came back I put my lid down on the ground and when I went to pick it up I noticed the brand new left hand side head guard looked a bit secondhand (ie absolutely fugged).

Some twat had in the middle of a massive car park full of bikes and bikers taken off the new headguard and replaced it with the old crashed and split one from their own bike , checked to other side and all the fasteners were loose apart from the one lying on the grass next to the bike.

Like to think that someone saw them and spoke to them but more likely the sod was disturbed and didn't get back to finish the job

Was it near a temporary caravan site...

Nope, I wouldn't have posted if that were the case. It's a very prominent vertically mounted fixing that didn't magically work loose on the 10 mile commute yesterday morning. Had it already worked even part way loose prior to that I'd have noticed because like I said I place my glasses case right next to it every time I get on and off the bike.

Scrotes it is then!

What news of the CCTV coverage.... and have you ordered that instrument guard.

Spoke to facilities on my way in who were kind enough to let me behind the desk and show me the view from the cameras, which ends right at the start of the bike bay! When I jokingly suggested they tip the camera up a little they explained it's illegal to record outside the boundary of your own property beyond "reasonable means", we live and learn.

Guard and replacement fastener ordered. Dealer said the fastener wouldn't cost more than £1 so I told him to get me some spares! Hopefully I won't be needing them though as I'll be leaving the top box off for the foreseeable and using a rucksack.
