Things to check before 300 miles on untested oilhead

He entered Mancunian airspace around noon today ?

Any news if he's crossed into Scotland yet ?

got back fine, had a few stops and visits on the way so took a while. bike never missed a beat, am impressed. completely different beast to the R80 airhead. few little bits to sort (fuel guage has a mind of its own and small weep from front brake master cylinder, something, probably petrol, has stained the gear case yellow in patches and may or may not still be leaking. will have a proper look once I've stopped walking like John Wayne.

Hi Gents.

First post noob hello to all. I've been a voyeur too long.

gg - eagerly awaiting your arrived status as I'm doing something very similar soon.

I live and work in Saudi but coming home at Ramadan (mid June), did something v silly and bought an 04 gsa over the phone last weekend, always wanted an adventure and like the 1150 aesthetically. Will pick up bike and ride it home from Shropshire to sunny Brighton on arrival in Blighty, then plan to ride it to Norway with Mrs Bam following week.

Going to give it the once over before we go, cross the fingers the FD and other age related items are ok as its done a tad over 70k.

Can't wait to see what the GS will be like.

Cheers,
Bam

bam the Norway trip sounds great, exactly what we would like to do (if we can offload the kids for a bit!). a friend of mine does telecoms in Saudi, also coming back at Ramadan. from what he tells me Saudi is an interesting place to live/work.

It certainly takes a bit of getting used to but we enjoy the total cultural otherness.
I'm in Dammam on the Persion Gulf, well in the 40's here at the moment so we thought Norway would be great for scenery and temperature.
I'm really looking forward to it. If we have time we'll go into Russia, down to St Petersburg and back via the Balkans.

get an airhawk. it literally saved my ass from turning in to corned beef today. I didn't have it on for the first hour and I could tell i was going to get severe biker-bum! the airhawk is great.

Glad you got home safe and sound :thumb

Speaking from personal experience, I would (at the earliest opportunity) replace engine oil and filter, gearbox and final drive oil regardless of what the seller has informed, especially if it has been anywhere near a BMW dealership.

Cheers UF ;)

Yup a full service kit is on the way. Im not planning on doing any restoration or cosmetics on this bike, just make sure its mechanically sound and use it. Seems to be a capable bit of kit.

search "shimming R1100RT seat" a simple fix and allowed me to put the Airhawk away, and that included 600 mile days :beerjug:
edit, of course the GS may not have the same issue :P
