This would be the ideal place to take your GS off road for the first time. 13 miles of mixed surface, flat and easy stuff that can be left at various junctions along the way. Salisbury Plain also a great place to start.
Thor,
An Ideal route to try. Obviously, as a novice, you'd benefit from a set of TKC80 tyres but not necessary in the dryer times of the year.
I've had my TKC's on for a while now and was dubious about using them on the road and that I couldn't warrant a set for the ammount of road milage I do.
I bought a set and are fine and last a lot longer than I thought they would + having them fitted encourages me to do more and more green laneing.
My prior experience in off-road has only been from this year (and it's adictive). Started at Bakerman's Hog Raost weekend and have been out a few times since.
A few of us GS riders went out with the KTMs & pogos on Sunday, doing the 'Wombat Hunt' in Surrey.A very good day.
