Hi all,

Newbie here, just test driven a GS 1150 at Sawbridgeworth and loved it. I would be grateful if I could get some pointers on the GS. There is a new graphite at the dealer calling my name!!!

I commute (hence the name) 100 miles a day, 7 miles across country to M1 then into London and down to hyde park corner. I have had a VFR, too small and currently have a Deauville (gutless)

I am 6ft 6 and a fat bloke, the only thing I noticed today was that the bike is a little windy????

There seem to be a few second hand ones around what is your advice on new or used? What should I look for on a second hand bike?

Virtual drinks in for you all.

Thanks in advance.

I know where a new import is....

Was down at Bracken this morning (geting poorer but Y piece and can now fitted!) and noticed they still have an unregistered 1150GS in grey in stock. They have had it a couple of months now as I'm sure it was there on my last visit and it is not a twin spark model.

Maybe good for a deal as I know they are finding business very quiet at the moment.

And YES buy one you'll never regret it!

What do you expect to hear on this website :D

Do it - buy it. Only decisions you need to make are - ABS or not - I would with your commute into London - what sort of luggage, colour - then go for it. Being a big bloke you may want to do something to the screen, but if you look in the technical forum you will find many threads on the subject.

Brilliant

more big fat blokes thats what we need! Regarding second hand, well they are a bit of a desirable item so - if you find a well cared for example, definately why not. Moreover the GSitis is so strong that the cost of purchase is a small fraction of the costs of all the silly Touratech, WUnderlich, Vern-the-case-bloke etc.. parts you´ll end up buying. That means maybe also better to buy second hand and spend the difference on special parts.

the only important thing is to buy one!

mmmm

It is indeed a great bike!....wish I cud say the same 4 the manufacturer!

Throw me to the dogs for saying this if you like....

But IMHO, as you're doing so much motorway riding, and especially if you're doing it all year, you'd be better off with a RT.

My bruv was in a similar position to you a couple of years back, and the dealer talked him into the RT. Unless, it's REALLY bad weather, and I mean REEEAAAALLLY bad, you won't get affected by it much. He's sworn it was the right decision until he cut down the mileage.
The RT has the same engine etc as the GS. Book a day with your dealer, try the RT first and then straight after, test a GS. Remember to put it into your context.. 100miles a day is a long way! and you can't really weave and dodge on the motorway like you can on the country lanes!!!
And as a final 2p's worth....... buy a white skidlid, and you'll be amazed who gets out of your way on the roads with an RT!!!! :)

MikeO:(
Funny you should mention that Mike, I am almost certain that I'm anorexhic (sp?). I read in a Sunday newspaper that one of the classic signs of a sufferer is that each time they look in the miror they see a fat person, well wouldn't you just have it that is exactly what I see too!! :hapybnce:
