Thinking of changing my LC GS to LC GSA

Estate agent speak...."Once you get it moving the extra weight is unnoticeable really" It might as well be a Pan....

Each to their own, ever tried pulling a pan out of a parking bay takes one more fella than it does for a GSA!

I love bigger bikes on account of being a rather large tosser, and yep had both the GS and GSA. GSA every day of the week, IMO.

Liked both but on the whole prefer the GSA - you only feel the extra weight pushing it around the garage.

Then at 6' 3" the size of the GSA's has never been an issue.

Try the GSA and see what you think - since they started putting the heavier crank motor in the standard GS there is not that much to choose between the 2 ;)

I'm 5' 10" with 30" inside leg so I bought the GSA with the factory lowered suspension, I can flat foot it without any problem.

We have about the same measurements :D and no problems pushing the bike around or getting the feet down. The GSA seat is narrower at the front than the old one which makes riding it a lot more easier. In fact my seat is set in the high position. Only when changing the suspension settings to take the missus with me do I need to lower the seat to get a foot down confidently.

Sadly wrote my 4 month old GSA off in horrendous accident in Germany. My partner and me miraculously survived and have months to contemplate a replacement bike. At 5'8" found the GSA tad difficult getting on and off with suspension set for pillion and luggage. Did contemplate the lowered version, but for me the whole ethos of an adventure bike is road presence and commanding view. Also not sure whether lowered GSA could bottom out 2 up with 3 weeks of luggage? Otherwise a great bike.

Had the full Akra system finished off by Hilltop - great improvement, only downside was the noise. Quite a bit louder and droned a bit, which made 400+ mile ride toward south of France a bit of a real -drone! Also had some issues with the quality of the finish. Thin paint is not up to the job of coating and protecting an 'adventure' bike.

If it was not for the KTM 1290, then I maybe ordering my 4th GSA.............

Regards.

Sorry to hear about your crash, glad you're here to tell the tale.:thumb

The KTM is a non starter for me, for many reasons, but some folk seem happy with them.

As to the paint finish on the GSA, I've put frame guards on mine, and all the paint is still there.:nenau

Question is, would you still be here if you'd crashed the KTM?

There is a post destined to be "fixed" I cant think of anything witty at the moment due to hangover :D

Me too!:D Don't mention the starter motors though, they'll get upset!:P

Well it appears Parks will not be putting another GSA demonstrator on the road for the foreseeable future.

About weight difference of both bikes when wet. I believe the GSA to be 25KG heavier. I wonder how much of that weight is accounted for by the 10 litres of extra fuel?

The rest would probably be down to engine bars and the like right? Well i have fitted upper and lower bars my LC GS. So i am thinking that the extra weight might not be that much at all.

Thanks for all the replies chaps. They have been most helpful.

Thanks Nutty,

I had the frame guards on mine also. The problem was the swing arm. My boots and bike cleaning process (carefully done) scratched the paint. Helicopter tape next time.

I ask my self the same question everyday: "How would my partner and me faired on any other bike?" it does not bear thinking about. The n/s crash bar snapped off and was pushed forward. The end where it snapped bent back past the pot, through my boot and into my foot breaking 3 bones. Not sure how busted my ribs as was then unconscious. May have been the bars or screen hitting my torso as I departed the bike?

I don't like chain drive on the KTM, but all the reviews state it has a better electronics package and more exciting engine. For me seat height is about 30mm less than the GSA and a little lighter. Another big thing for me you don't see too many of them. The Germans are everywhere!

I also have issues with German aftersales and servicing. (Bike goes in for service washed and waxed. Comes out covered in grease and finger prints. Oil still dripping off new oil filter. sumpug not tightened and fresh oil leaking out into belly pan. Seat not put back on properly, no phone calls to tell me stuff ordered has come in - I am still waiting a phone call now a month later,
and there is more..........) Will dealing with a smaller and hopefully more caring franchise and going orange be a more pleasurable experience??

Regards

Human nature is to go over and over, thinking of how you could have done things differently, and what could have happened. You just need to move on.

I know I take the piss out of chain driven bikes, but I have one, and a good dry lube is very easy to manage, and doesn't flick crap everywhere. I'm quite lazy though, and on an adventure bike, I don't want to be lubing the chain when on a 2000 mile trip, as I'd rather be in the bar!

I'm lucky that I have a great dealer, and a good relationship with them. My mate works in the service department, and is the only one there that works on my bike. He always does a thorough job, and knows that I'll give him a load of hassle if he messes up! They have also helped me negotiate with BMW over the replacement of my bike a couple of years ago, so I really can't fault them.

It comes down to personal choice at the end of the day, and both bikes are going to do the job very well.:thumb

Well chaps the deal has been done. I should be taking delivery of low suspension GSA TE early September. In white (apparently a new white for 2016) :D:D:D

nice one! the new white is called bright white ! FFS how many whites are there i had a wing i called it bosch white then a pearl white then other whites had 7 gsa's only one white 2007 but i did have a 30th adv model white loved that as it had other colours mixed in.Sure you will enjoy the new steed:-)

I made the switch a month ago now and its the best decision I have ever made! Since taken delivery of the GSA women have been hanging off me like fruit bats…. I have always been able to get the birds dripping like a fucked fridge but now with a GSA in tow the amount of clunge I am fighting off has gone turbo.

Must dash as these lot are outside the house waiting for me to grind their pelvises into talcum powder!
