Thinking of going to Germany in the car in January. What’ll the weather be like?

Thanks Richard,
Definitely going but not in January. Will leave it until the weather is a bit warmer and go on the bike.
I haven't tried Kurviger before.
Excellent . Time to get a thread up to 20 pages before you leave 🤔

Cochem can wait.
Place where Wessie stayed and Wapping has routes.

I forgot to say, the hotel has an honesty beer & wine fridge with 500ml bottles of Weissbier for €3.50 which is handy for the gap between the lunch and dinner service, although the biergarten on the riverside is open during this period and serves Flammkuchen and the usual array of wurst and burgers. https://www.am-maingarten.de/index.php

Thanks pal sounds good to me.
I'll have a look at that for a couple of nights.

No idea where that is but assume you meant east of Frankfurt.
The area known as the Spessart
Its big with German tourists who like walking and drinking beer. Only ever been there in spring to autumn and its very wooded so probably a bit grim in the winter months
In nice weather its full of bikes, not all with engines.

yes, this eis cafe and the biergarten across the road are very popular with 2 wheelers as you can see in https://maps.app.goo.gl/L5FS1fQkcpFZscs37
the hotel is behind the camera in this view, near the road bridge over the River Main west of Wurzburg at the southern end of the Spessart

The whole area is alive with hotels, as shown on Google maps. They cater for all tastes and budgets. None of them will be overly unfriendly to bikermates, even if they arrive on a bicycle, on foot or in a car.

Well north of where I was thinking :blast
I bought my second 911 in Siegen, not far away.

Siegen is 200km north - have you looked at a map? There are many Freudenberg in Germany, including the one west of Siegen. I have stayed there as well but that hotel did not survive Covid. It was also a very nice family run place.

@Doc - makes sure you get the right Freudenberg in 97896 not one of the 20 others!

No where near the original "south or around Fulda, west of Frankfurt" then :D

no, but it is east of Frankfurt as in the first post https://maps.app.goo.gl/3tycBBzju4DMJMi79

as I posted in @Wapping's thread that inspired Doc's travel plans, the hotel I recommend is an hour south of the loop he posted

in another place, we had a SKoGA - sketchy knowledge of geography award - I think we need to have one here

Enough.

Doc has decided that he’ll maybe go on his holiday. Whether by bike or car, solo or with another and whether it’s in January or any month up to and including December, it matters not.

He’s chosen a possible hotel, which he’s free to change his mind on. Nobody cares if it is north, south, east or west of Frankfurt, Berlin or Lisbon.

Doc, start a fresh one, if and when you would like anything else.

Thread closed.

Richard
