its a proper bit of kit but im so not used to a 4Cyl and although its not, it feels to me like its revving its tits off, the power is immense, and the comfort is very good but Its just not me, at the moment i'm trying to trade it in for a R1300GS TE Trophy but just waiting to see what sort of a kick in the Bollocks im going to have to take !!

I feel your pain. I started last year with my 1250GSA added a Goldwing to the garage, sold the Goldwing for a V4Rally the. Sold both to put some cash back into the account and end up with a 1300GSA🤦🏼‍♂️. If you got an ex demo the hit will hurt but not too much. If it was brand new 😱

I did something similar in 2014.
I bought a brand new Honda CBF and after only 6 months decided i wanted to swap.
I went back to the Honda dealer and swapped it for a CBR, and yes as you put it i got a proper kick in the bollocks!
After that i did as Siddo suggested and test rode everything.
Even then its not perfect.
In principle all bikes are 2 wheels and handlebars, but it the little things that niggle over time. These things are not always picked up on a test ride.
The day to day living with a bike is different to a 20 minute ride.

Getting it in and out of the garage, cleaning, long distance rides, riding in different weather and surfaces, fitting luggage to the bike, dash layout and switches, buffeting, aches and pains from seating position....
list is endless

I say take the swift kick in the nads and be happy afterwards.

I know what you mean about multis feeling a bit busy, I also have a zzr14 and even that large 4 cylinder 1441cc the engine feels frantic even though it does similar engine speeds for any road speed to the GSA for example.
Four cylinder bikes are good to have for an alternative but they’re not really my bag, either.
Two cylinders are enough!

if you like to squeeze through traffic you will regret it

take one to try some filtering and nadgery maneuvering between narrow obstacles

they will offer 12k for what you have and always expect to make a min of 3k to swap - and then they like to play numbers, so expect to hand over 6k for a slightly scabby secondhand one, or 11k for a new one -

I considered swapping my GSA for a XR..

After reading so many people regretting it and going back to a GSA, I'll just stick where I am :D

So I have done 42k on a 22 and a 24 xr and the one thing I liked was if you didn't want to thrash it using all the revs it was perfectly happy pulling high gears and just cruising around, and being very economical if you wanted, couple that with bmw service plan it is a cheap to run 170hp bike, all imo obviously 😉

I have a 24 plate GS1300 trophy and a 25 plate XR with the M pack.I took them both out for a short ride yesterday for the first time since November ,riding the GS after the XR the GS felt like a tank, the gearbox and quick shifer is super slick on the XR and that engine is sublime and autogs is right it has plenty of torque despite what some have said and is happy in any gear.
Still love the GS though and it will be going to the Alps and Dolomites this June.

PS - I had a 24 plate S1000r for 13 months and changed to the XR .My wife wasn't happy she couldn't come for a ride on the r,great bike felt as light as a bicycle compared to the GS. I lost about £2000 in 13 months, times ticking for me regarding my biking days so I couldn't care less🙂

I was going to trade my 650 mile 1250gs in for the M1000XR the height issue was a negative but when would I use 200bhp !! having had 2 XR I found to have fun your 9k+ and doing triple digits.

mmm. that's where i am, GS13 is going to Picos and Pyrenees in July and keep thinking the xr may be too buzzy.

it's the reliability is making me look elsewhere.

If i was riding without a pillion id happily take my XR on tour really nice bike to ride.
I tried an XR when they first come out in 2015 I think as a replacement for my ZZR absolutely hated it bought my first GS instead and kept the ZZR too😀
Never thought I'd end up with one they've improved over the years.

I ran a mk1 2016 S1000XR alongside my 2016 R1200RS from 2018 to 2023. Both did multiple trips to the Picos & Pyrenees. I enjoyed all of the trips. Both were fine on twisty goat tracks. The XR was fine for trundling along gawping at views and was easier on the hairpins than the RS due to the wide bars and smaller turning circle, although you had to keep the revs up and slip the clutch like most I4 bikes I have ridden.
My only criticism of the XR is the heat that comes off the engine and is blasted at your ankles. Mine was factory lowered and this was possibly a function of that as I don't hear many owners complain about this. It was particularly uncomfortable on a trip to Lux/France when they had a 43C heatwave in June, 2019 I think.
I sold the XR in 2023 when retiring and moving house. I rode a R1300GS before changing the RS and it is not a bike I gelled with.

Why did you get rid of the wing?

Why did you get rid of the wing?
After riding it twice, each time for 100 miles I had back ache. The bike was fantastic and loved it. The start-up sequence and firing the engine was music to my ears after 15 years on GS variations. But a wings no good to me if you can only do 50-75 miles without being in pain. It's down to me having Sherman's disease type 2 of the lower spine. Most likely everybody else would be fine ☹️
