Evening all

Im thinking of getting my Mitts on the F800 GS soon (hopefully) and im just wondering if its possible to get the beasty restricted :augie,,,, you see im getting a restricted licence but looking for a bigger bike (as you do).

I have decided wholeheartedly that its gotta be the F800,, I was looking at a 650 Dakar a while back but having had a sit and play with an F800 im definately sold on it :D

So im just wondering if anyone has any ideas on Costs, Pros and Cons to having it done,, i dont mind being restricted as in 2 years ill have a "brand new" bike :beerjug:

Thats good to hear :D does anyone have any ideas how much this might add ontop of the pile of metaphorical money i need to make to get the bike + accessories?? (I got my Varadero to trade in and its work about 2.3K book price, so hopefully its not going to be too steep to get the GS)

I was going to call Rainbow (My Local dealer) but as usual its too late at night to get through, so failing everything least i can try tomorrow lol (I got my Varadero to trade in and its work about 2.3K book price, so hopefully its not going to be too steep to get the GS)

Thats not the worst thing in the world. Will take some getting used to but now I cant wait :D need to get it all sorted now

Hi Dan-the-man,

The dealer won’t get the kit from F1 international aka rip-off merchants.... It’s an over-the-counter part which you can buy at any BMW dealer, think it’s less than a tenner, well, it is for a F650 which has the same engine. As mentioned, it’s a throttle stop. You could fit it yourself, or if you buy a new bike then the conversion is FOC (http://www.bmw-motorrad.co.uk/motorcycles/enduro/bmw-f-650-gs/prices-and-specifications.html).

Also, don’t fall for the ‘you need a certificate to prove restriction for insurance sir... that will be £250 please’, its crap....

My girlfriends F650 twin is restricted, still pulls well and tops out at just shy of a ton (on private driveway of course).
Cheers
Phil

I heard stories about the FI Scandle,,, thank you MCN,,,, but it only being a throttle stop isnt all bad, i heard pretty much all bikes that are restricted (going on blandits, er6's and the like) top out at 100 so im more then happy with that anyway :JB

The F800GS can't be restricted like the 650 twin AFAIK.....could be wrong tho....may be because it's not offered as a factory option like the 650?

Top end 95+ on my private airfield!

I bought a new 800gs from Oceans, Plymouth a few weeks ago and it came as factory options and no cost to restrict

Aye I managed to get through to a mechanic at Rainbow, he says its just a matter of swapping out the throttle bodies

So looks like soon ill be getting the GS and breaking her in by throwing a dart at the UK and using my Urban Rider to get me there :)
