Hi Folks

been running the 550 for a few years now and am thinking about an upgrade.

There are a couple of really annoying things on the 550 and wonder if they have been fixed on the 660 (actually loads more but dont want to winge too much ;)?

1. Cant show the time on the main navigation screen. This is essential in my view when targeting specific journey points. The ability to turn it on or off would be really useful.

2. The display of the overall mileage left on a route would be fantastic too - the only way to see how far is left overall is to go to the turn by turn page and scroll through the list to the last one!

3. When using the fuel warning - its great to have a list of gas stations offered. However it would be really useful to have an option of showing gas stations that are on your current route - rather than the list with arrows pointing every which way. It's impossible to know which is the best selection when they say some thing like 17mile NE and 12mile West etc. Surely the software should be able to determine which from the list are actually on the current route!

Could one of you 660 Guru's comment?

1. The clock displays all the time. You can not turn it off.

2. The way I have mine set up gives me
a) Time to next turn
b) Time to destination
c) Miles to destination
d) Speed.
You then also have the arrow displaying the next turn + distance plus the clock, so by my count that's now 7 bits on info on display, plus the speed limit if your roads' limit is coded into the current map :)

3. Still no way to dispaly gas stations on route. Would be useful I agree.

It will show petrol stations on your current route.

On the Zumo if you press the petrol station button a line across the bottom of the screen appears. Press the NEAR button then in the next screen press the MY CURRENT ROUTE button. That should do it.

Well I'll be hogswoggled!

Excellent tip thanks Dryskier - any idea if its possible to show the time / route remaining distance too?

Cheers to Funrider too!

For the distance remaining you have to press the button on the left of the zumo, 2nd one up.
That changes the screen to show the miles left - in a box - 2nd down on the right hand side.
As for time remaining - I dont know - just work it out from the arrival time on the main map window & the box that tells you the time of day.;)

Aha - you're talking about the 660 then Dryskier? Those buttons are not on the 550 (your tip for the gas stations relates to the 660 too?), I wrongly assumed you were telling me I'd missed a point!

No - I'm talking about the 550. Havent got a 660.

Works on the 660 too. Nice one as I had missed the 'Current Route' within the 'Near' option, but it still finds petrol stations a few miles 'off rout', so not quite what Kahuna was after.

True - but if you select a petrol station & then press map, it shows whether its directly on your route - or just a bit off.:)

Agreed :beerjug:

It would be useful to be able to filter down to Motorway only fuel, for when you are on a long motorway journey, but your method of viewing on the map would do the job, just a bit fiddly if you are driving (or riding) :augie

Dryskier - I just got the chance to test this today and on my 550 with the latest software - there is no 'near' button on the bottom of the screen - therefore no way to select gas stations on route. Mine has a Back and up/down arrows and I think a button to put in an address (but not a near).

Is there a setting I have missed some place?

Assuming you're going along a route, then

"where to" - select

bottom of the screen below favorites is "near ..." select

third option down "my current route" select and click ok

then search as you would for fuel if all you used was the default of "Where I am now".

All that does is bring up the list of gas stations John - its not selective to the route I am on - no different to just searching for fuel. Dryskier suggested he had a near button on the bottom of his fuel list screen - I dont find that. Do you?

It does find near the route for me, but you have to select it before looking for the fuel stations, so yes it is there, the "near ... button but AFAIK of no use if you didn't select "my current route" as I laid down. Running 4.80 on the 550 if that makes any difference, but I don't think it does.

Something wacky then cause I tested that option today and it brought up exactly the same set of stations (some 20 miles off my route) as just the usual listing. Seemed like it didn't remember I had used the near selection first!

Try again during the week and see how it goes

Thanks for the feedback.

Had two replacement units from garmin as both are full of glitches - lucky i kept the 550 as will us that now as the 660 with all its issues is not worth taking away as it could not preview a 20 mile route for 5 mins then locked and turns off - best advice chuck it away and keep the 550.

Bitter and:bounce1 twisted !!
