This is one cool helmet

Matt Black

Got one - like it - bit of wind noise - comfortable - for my shape of head :hide

One of the largest chain of bike gear shops in France is Cardy. I was in the Montpellier shop the other day with a friend who wanted to buy a Shark Evoline, they wouldn't sell him one, had lots of trouble with them apparently:nenau

Can you put it on without raising the chin piece ? Anybody know ?

Yes you can. I have just returned from France and had a look at these amongst other helmets. I went into a number of bike shops in La Rochelle, Perpignan, Sarlat & Caen (round trip) - a number stocked the evoline but were short on stock because it sells well... No one told me that they had had a lot of trouble with them - quite the reverse - all said what a good helmet it was and how well it was selling (...well they would, I suppose...).

The downside from my point of view is that it is quite heavy at around 2kg. However, looking at any of the flip-lids they are all quite heavy due to the mechanisms. The balance of the Shark is particularly good in the 'open' position.

I was all set to buy one yesterday in Caen but they didn't have my size - interestingly, they come up quite large (I'm normally a large but a medium was the right size for me). Helmet city had them in stock when I popped in a few weeks ago so I think I'll go there... slightly cheaper in the UK - French price was 349E.

Unrelated to helmets - I was also looking for Soubirac jackets (recommended on this site) but none of the outlets advertised on their web-site actually stocked them! Very frustrating. All the bike shops said what good quality they were...so I shall keep looking.

Shark Evoline

I have had the silver Evoline for 3 months now & finding it good to wear, with the chinbar at the back it feels balanced and you have a good flow of air to your face. The Sunvisor allows you to look at your dials under it, and when I've come home early in the morning with the chinbar down you keep warm. It's been fine in the rain you just leave the visor up one notch, so it doesn't mist up.It feels no heavier than my Arai Tourx. It does feel snug though but not uncomfortable. ;)

thats good gadget two helmets for yer head, ya might aswell yiv two of everything on yer bike :D

I just bought a Shark S500 Air at the start of the season to replace my long lasting UVEX helmet. What a mistake! The shark helmet has vents on the front which flow down towards your forehead. Because of this, there is no padding there, just hard foam which presses into your head on long journeys causing some bad headaches! For some reason, it is a really noisey helmet aswell.
My wife has the S650 and she doesn't like hers either, same problems as mine and hers is heavier giving her a sore neck after long rides. Roll on NEC so we can get some new ones...

NEVER BUY SHARK AGAIN!!

Having just spent 230 on a new lid last week...I just thought :blast when i read this thread, Cheers Stu, I need read no further :D

Sorry Woody! But it is just my opinion!! could be that my head is strangly misshapen and no lid fits properly :eek

I now know, the next time I go for a new helmet, to check to see if the padding goes all around the inside of the thing! :thumb2

Your opinions fine Stu:thumb What I meant was I bought a Shoei last week and thought the Shark looked better with all the bells and whistles, your opinion of the Shark means I wont be kicking myself.
Cant fault the Shoei its superb! :clap

After having Shoei Helmets for a number of years I bought a Shark during the half price sale a Hein Gericke a couple of years ago. (£280 Lid for £140). Hate it. After waiting a few months for it to "bed in" which it still hasn,t I was told that I just don,t have a "Shark Head" !!. Now I don,t clean it as in a few months it will be so grotty that then I can convince the Missus that a replacement is required and that will be a Shoei.

Oh ya bugger! :blast

Just found pictures of that lid in matt black

The main reason to be careful when buying this helmet is that it only comes in one shell size, making for a very thickly padded odd looking helmet. Another is that the visor will not sit open with about a 1cm gap to allow for demisting (They say it's not necessary because it has an anti fog visor, great but this ain't going to stop my glasses misting up is it). Surprisingly the chin bar seems very heavy when flipped right over.

I have to admit when I saw the prototype I got all excited, because it flips right over like the Roof. Sadly though like the Roof the rest of the features fall a long way short of what I want from my next helmet. Neither of them fit me either. Oh well :nenau

I was looking at the Shark in Motoland in Calais yesterday, they do seem a bit plasticky(is that a word?)and the Visor looks like an afterthought . But they do em in some wild and wacky colour combinations.
I went in to try on a new Roof Boxer V but the guy in the shop told me that they didn't do em anymore...My French being what it is , I couldn't tell you if he meant Motoland or Roof

Shame really

BTW what with the Euro/Pound situation ... How about nearly 650-00 quid for an Arai RX  or 8700-00 for a Yamaha Tenere?

Emperor's new clothes

I think it looks hideous and if there is only one shell size it will look bizarre if you are anything other than an XL :barf

I've done 22k miles with my multitech and by and large it's been great. The matt black is impossible to keep clean and scratches easily and is pants to ride with it open. The pinlock is fantastic.

This Shark look good but I'd echo the shell size issue and teh lack of pinlock for speccy twats like me. What about darker visors - the sun visor barely looks tinted:nenau

As for fit, last time I tried a Shark it didn't fit (my head's fault) and my BMW Sys5 lid was the same but it took for 40 mins for the headache to set in!!!

I do like teh idea of the chin moving right out the way though

+1 Stu

I had a Shark S500 air. The vents are not adjustable, and the right hand top vent above the visor leaked like a sieve - I mean an almost continual stream of water down the right hand side of my face in heavy rain.

The retailer i bought it from contacted the Shark rep, whos response was "thats because its our entry level helmet, nothing we can do about it and no you're not getting a refund"

i will never buy Shark again, (which is a pity coz it fit my head quite well) i've gone back to AGV

Is the chin strap a D Ring type fastener or the click type as used on a seat belt?
Not easy to see from any pics or the video.

...click type...

I bought one a couple of weeks ago and gave it a good run over to Switzerland and back over the BH weekend. Really comfortable and as I like open-face helmets I found it particularly good when it was sunny or when pottering through towns/villages. For the motorway blasts or when it rained it was much more comfortable in the full-face position.

So far I'm impressed - less noisy than my Arai(s) - does the job well.
