This'll go down really well here...

Why would it not? You can't disagree that's exactly what Harley have done...with great success.

"But Harley, to its credit, is bigger than that. It has ridden the waves of giggling and pointing and is now flogging bikes hand over fist. The greatest reason for this is not a change in the bikes (although there’s been plenty – improved performance, less chrome and so on) but a change in the riders. As UK motorcyclists have become older and roads more crowded, screaming litre sports bikes have become less and less attractive. The modern new bike buyer is older, wealthier and well used to dealing with the complexities of financing his purchase.

There’s also is a lot to be said for thumping along on a low, and thus easy to manage, bike if you’re in your late forties or early 50s (Harley’s sales sweet spot here). And again, the thing these guys are buying is not the bike so much as the brand"

would that be the same type of branding that makes fat 50+ men dress like dakar entrants and adorn there bike with extras like two five litre fuel tanks on each pannier even though they have the adventure model with a range of 350 miles ,and of course dont forget your extra spotlights because its impossible to see without them ,yes i know other cars see you with them on but having ridden for nearlly 30+ years without extra spots ive not been knocked off.
what ever type of bike you buy you buy into a lifestyle choice that you think says THIS IS ME ,if its adventure ,cruiser ,racer ,we are all a product of branding the things you buy from breakfast cereal to a car to the branded beer you drink its a lifestyle choice that suits your type of branding .
thats how it is ,its just that harley has a huge market of it .

im biased as well but whatever live and let live myself i hate the whole harley t shirt ,boots ,leather jacket ,bandana branding and would never buy a harley piece of clothing ,but i love the bikes .
same deal as the bmw twat suit brigade they too are a product of branding and corporate image ,but whatever

When i rode BMW's i'd not be caught wearing any of the BMW branded gear (except gloves, they make good gloves) But the HD is different, first thing i did was buy an H-D jacket FFS??? What the fcuk is happening??? It's a nice jacket but when did I become susceptible to branding, i'd never dream of buying a yamkawahonda jacket?

I've got a couple of items of Harley "wear" .... For two good reasons....... First they make stuff in "proper" sizes.....well, they have to for Yanks...:D and secondly I blend in at a HOG do...no problem....:green gri

I have a Triumph jacket... Is that ok?

I've got a Tomos T Shirt, the colour matches my bike (and my eyes) :)

Complex......................When you get to a certain age you realise you really don't give a feck what other riders think.

You're not wrong there :thumb2 So on that note I think I'll keep my eyes open for a 'stitch! :D

Oh, and a bubble visor - actually the Arai SZ must be a modern equivalent. Great helmet, I had one until some scrote nicked it out of my top box along with my gardening gloves and they took the Oxford bike cover.

Have a look at 78 Motor Company for a lid/bubble. Started by a really sound lad from Norn ireland and his bird, about to go live for sales. Saw their lids at a show recently and they're lovely and far less than a lot of those trendy ones.

I think HD must have the most successful marketing campaign the world has ever seen. Admittedly i don't think it was all their own doing. They just picked up the 'bad boy' ball and ran with it.

How many companies command such brand loyalty that customers will get tattoos of the company name on them? I might get 'Persil Automatic - Live to wash - Wash to live' on my arm and a Kelloggs Coco Pops back piece.

You are clearly confused.
Those who get tattoos of the brand are clearly fuckwits, they are mentally deficient in many ways, myriad in fact.
Back patch clubs who subscribe to the brand are also mentally deficient in so many fucking ways ,as to defy all known logic.

The former are merely trying to emulate the latter and in this whole mish mash of fuckedupness, they all kind of become homosexual in everything that they do in a macho kind of way.....If that makes sense.
