Thought I was going up in flames

... and, dropping the bike onto the side stand, getting off, raising it onto the centre stand to fill up ....... gives you enough time to find some tw&t has spilt diesel all over the forecourt and you're sliding around in it .... with a much lighter bike than it's going to be in approximately 4.5 minutes time :blast

Well you have to get off and put it on side stand to pay so you may as well get off, check for diesel, put on centre stand and stand on side of bike away from pump. What's the problem with that?

Plus the diesel that you are talking about, has just been ridden over by your front wheel. Doh.

There is always one that can't follow simple logic...

Yep all fuel costs were covered by the dealer & an extra free tank of fuel was thrown in too ...

Before this i never really gave the whole filling up process much thought & i was just being a lazy sitting on the bike .... After this i'll be making sure my arse is never on the seat again ...
I've had some stations refuse to turn the pumps on before filling unless i got off the bike ... i guess i should have taken that as a sign ...

Oh i'd also like to thank the bloke from the builders van who chose to put his fag out before he walked over to see what was going on .....

Side stand
Off bike
Fill up
Tank not absolutely totally full to the brim ?
Couldn't give a fuck !

Wouldn't dream of even trying to put it on centre stand.
Our local station forecourt is like a skating rink with bike boots on.

Well I thought that's what I said! :blast

Petrol needs a naked flame or a spark to ignite it... no hot surface, including a cigarette can ignite a liquid where the boiling point is lower than the autoignition point. For Petrol, the boiling point is about 95°c but the autoignition temp is around 250°c.

Having said that, for safety reasons (i.e rogue spark from a fault, or a spillage over yourself). I have always took the 5 seconds effort to get off the bike when filling it up.

I've never ever even considered staying sitting on a bike whilst filling up with fuel.

Partly because you have to go inside to pay anyway and now I have an F800GS it's probably impossible.

Glad you didn't suffer any long term issues, the bikes fixed so happy days.

I also always dismount (and remove my helmet). A few of my mates stay seated to fill up and I've given up mentioning how daft it is not to mention far more chance of getting fuel on your clothes and a slow getaway if needed.......... but they know better:rolleyes:

that looks well scarey :eek

centre stand and off the bike for me as i like to stretch the legs anyway.

T

I have my butler fill the bike up for me, so I don't have to have this headache:D

1. Glad you're okay

2. Entirely agree with the sitting on the bike thing, but hey, I bet you don't need us lot telling you that now. So I won't :blagblah

3. I'm amazed the thread hasn't gone more down the name and shame route!

Following recovery back to the dealer I was advised that the seal for the sender unit had't seated properly ....
As the issue was promptly resolved so I wont name the dealer on here ...

That, frankly, is incompetent, and close to criminally negligent- they deserve to be booed. And if they did rectify things that quickly - they deserve to be applauded.

I know which camp I'm in! :rob Either way I think you have a duty to your fellow bikers (before you have a duty to incompetent twats that don't do a proper job - which could potentially could have been life threatening) to name and praise/shame. :rob

PS - but actually I'm getting rather pissed off with "professionals"

Cannon left bolts off and lose on my GS

Jim Aim left a fuel line spraying fuel on my KTM

and how about this...

Mrs TT has a Suzuki Splash, which does very very low miles - mostly shopping once a week, so it has an annual service. *Its just had a "40000 mile service" (but has only done 10000 miles).

When she gets it home she tells me that it has "clunk" sound sometimes, and it wasn't doing it before the service. *Anyway, she arranges to take it back the following Monday (about 3 working days later). They have the car for the day, say they can't find anything wrong.

Anyway Saturday, she drives over to meet me, and tells me the clunk has got worse, especially on bends. *

Take a look at this, and tell me if you think this may be causing the clunk?...

:slaphead :wtf

Criminal negligence? We're lucky Mrs TT didn't end up injured or dead. The fact she took it back and they "checked" it over FFS!!! My blood is boiling!! *:rant

(BTW all four wheels had wheel nuts too loose, I had to do every single one up!)

(that's three out of three of the last paid for services I've had done resulting in major negligence!)
