Thoughts on “popping in” to Gibraltar?

Hi all,
A week till I depart from UK on my Morocco “adventure”. Im of a mind to do a brief ride around Gibraltar as I am staying overnight in Algeciras but hear some horror stories of entry exit queues. My plans will have my arrive in the vicinity around 4pm…….anyone done this recently that might advise?

Not ridden a bike around Gibraltar but last time I went there I found it easier to park the car on the Spanish side and walk over the border. The long line of vehicles waiting to cross made my mind up easily.

I went for the day last year, followed Rockred advice (post 3 in this thread Gib ). Only a short wait to get in and no queue to leave in the evening.

Go to the border, see what the queues are like and make your decision then.

I stayed in la Linda de la conception last year and walked across. Had a day in Gib and was quite disappointed actually.
To much traffic, to many people.

I visited years ago, and was very disappointed. No queues to get in, I planned to stay overnight but didn't bother. Rode around the rock, stopped for a drink and left.

I went last month for the day. 8 minute queue each side. You can view live updates on a webcam of the queue. With a time estimation.Parked somewhere on the left as I came out the tunnel.
If you haven’t been recently you no longer go over the runway, tunnel now! Much quicker, and had to be stamped out of course…..

Loads to see, stayed at the Bristol. Pool and bar on the top floor. When I was there they had some sort of celebration. Also purchased a Rolex It was 20 years ago.

I go in occasionally in a car not the bike and it seems much easier on the bike as you can overtake the car queues and it always seems ok if you go outside the rush hour. The bigger problem might be if you have a UK passport as more and more you read on the forums that the Spanish border control guards are giving people a hard time. Make sure have details of your accommodation and your ticket for Morocco so you can prove you are on holiday and just passing through Spain.

It’s no good just riding around the rock, the interesting stuff is inside the rock, St Michaels cave has a concert hall inside it for example, the siege tunnels are well worth a visit too, the Second World War tunnels like wise, plus the Apes den is always good for smile or two.

Now how to see things, take the taxi tour from Casemates Square in the center of town, it’s about £25 each, that includes entrance fees to the Nature Reserve, St Michaels cave, the Siege tunnels with views out of the gun ports over looking the runway and right into Spain and the Apes den. The taxi is yours for the whole trip, and will wait for you outside the attractions and return you back down to Casemates Square in the center of town.

Parking IMO is best in the ICC car park, it’s bang in the center of town, it’s accessed from Line Wall Road, next to the petrol station.
Carry a bit of momentum up the ramp to the barrier, press the button for your ticket, park your bike in front of the kiosk bike parking.
Take the lift down and you will be in the center of town, 25 yards from where the taxis leave for the Rock Tours.

Don’t be tempted to walk to the cable car, as that will only take you up the Rock, and then you will have a lot of walking and extra paying ,to see probably just the cave at that end of the Rock.
