Had the 1200 for 3000km's now, my thoughts -

The bike will win only one 1st prize IMHO.
And that is the best allround bike category.
It's not the fastest bike out there - sure something like the ZX14R or CBR1300RR R CR TRW whatever is the fastest. But it's fast enough 200km/h is enough to get you arrested in most countries.
It's not the best handling(compared to superbikes) but it does handle better than most sportsbikes and is far more comfortable for rider and passenger.
Offroad you could do better - lighter bikes like the 650gs, HP2 or ktm, personally i think you'll have to go far to beat an old XR500(if you're not gonna take SWMBO) but the 1200 Still features here.
Touring its a good bike only beaten by BMW's bigg-ass touring jobs.

All in all this bike scores high in all respects of biking and i beleive is the only one that does so. Show me any onther bike that is so versatile and oh soooo lovely to ride on AND off road!

P.s i'm not trying to stir, it's just time we start a thread that praises the bike!

I'm on my second 12GS now. It's about the best thing out there for my daily 100 mile commute. But if I really want to ride I take my Aprilia RSVR. It goes better, stops better, looks better, handles better, has never broken down (unlike both GS's) and after 5 years ownership still makes me feel good after a ride in a way the GS never will. It's probably crap off road though.

(start deja-vu)

Great minds think alike!
