Round 'n' round in circles.........
Before I spend my hard earned cash, (ok insurance money) I need to be clear in my mind that I am buying the right piece of kit for the job, as in daily riding to and from work, hence the questions:-

To those that have got one, are they really that good?

Would you consider it to be a good all round jacket, as in warm in really cold weather?

Are all the million zips an issue?

Is the zip in/out Goretex liner a problem?

Do I really need that many pockets?

I tried one on yesterday and it fitted and felt really good, but I cannot help that I am looking at it through rose tinted glasses!

Can anyone else recommend an alternative jacket other than the Rallye II, but it must have a Goretex liner.

Cheers,

BTBR

BTB..I got a bwm Streetguard........and i'm very impressed with it so far.......

Goretex and totally windproof, IMO smarter than the Rallye (specially as it matches my adv, complete with red flashes on the sleeves and round the arse) and nice and warm....plus its light as well.

In fact when i put it on initially i wasnt sure because it almost felt too light...in comparison with my Armaguard Rukka...the Rukka has a comforting weight to it, but looking at the quality and armour in the bee-em one, and the stitching etc, I'm happy it's at least as safe.

There aren't as many pockets, but since my big 'off' and having talked to a mate who had broken ribs 'cos of stuff in his pockets, I really dont like taking anything much in pockets anyway......flat soft wallet and a few quid in loose change at most.

Go for a hefty discount on the Bee-em stuff if you go that way......I got 35% off mine at prestige which brought it down close to the cheaper jacket and trews i was looking at, and I'm glad i went for it.

HTH.

PS Rukka's bloody nice too........

I use my Rallye II jacket as a summer jacket only. It's too thin for winter use for me even with the liner in.

It's the coolest (temp wise) jacket I've got and is ideal for hot euro touring 'cos of all the vents and even better with the bladder fitted. The armour's pretty close fitting and comfy without being bulky. The pockets are good but not waterproof.

The liner is a cinch to take out and put in and very effective against the wind. I've been caught in torrential rain whilst wearing the Rallye II and have kept dry all over but got very cold!

For winter I have a Spidi 360 (?). I've had a few Spidi jackets over the years and swear by them but they're not everyone's cup of tea. 'Cos they're Italian the sizes are more than a bit odd. Very waterproof and warm. The only issue I have with it is when all the liners are zipped out the armour is too loose to be effective but that's when I use the RII.

IMHO - The Rallye II jacket is great for summer but not for me in the cold.

I've been toying with the idea of buying a Rallye 2 too. I tend towards leather for that "chuck it up the road experience", so how does the Rallye 2 perform WRT leather?

BTBR sorry for the hijack :(

Regards

Tim

I`ve got a Savanah suit. I looked at the rallye but at the time there was no waterproof liner for it so discounted it.
The Savanah, along with most BMW kit, is fine for the summer but I found it not warm enough once it got cold and I wore my Shoei kit from October onwards. Having said that I`ve bought a heated waistcoat and now wear the Savanah all year round.

Gericke Jacket

Have a look at the latest Master Jacket from Gericke.
I had the version from 2 years ago and found it to be the warmest winter/mid season jacket I have had.
Goretex with thermal /comfortemp removable liner and fully armoured inc back protector.

Great value.

cheers

I have a rallye II trousers and jacket, I've not found them too cold ( well riding in temps of 5c ( I know what you lot are like and someone will probably say 5c aint cold I do all my riding in -30c:D )) I wear quality thin thermals underneath plus a bwm back protector II and I feel toasty as a toasty thing. On a down side the main off puting factor has to be the cost, niggles include the connecting zips between trousers and jacket are a pain, the big pop on map pocket thing is up in the loft!, but otherwise its fine, and i really like the removable bumbag that zips to the back of the jacket, quality bit of design that:thumb I've not ( touch wood ) used its protective capabilities yet, but I find the armour stays in place, and its a lot more flexible than my leathers were, specially when doiing some twisty stuff due to the wide bars.
Overall 8 out of 10, and I'd give it 10 if it were £100 cheaper!

Rallye 2

Had mine for a year now, excellent in summer, plenty of airflow zips, the liner is easy to put in and out, you can chuck it in the washing machine.
As well as the Gortwx liner coming out you can also remove the armour very easily as well, zip of the arms etc.
It's got More pockets than you can shake a stick at. there is a waterproof bag to put in any of the pockets (it works well). I know it's a bit pricey but............... .
I don't suffer from the cold like most people so I don't find it too bad, but a light fleece or thermal might not go amiss in winter
Underneath the jacket I wear a breathable full sleeve airtech tee shirt, helps the wicking effect considerably for summer and has a good cooling effect.

I discovered a minor problem with my streetguard jacket yesterday.

Well, not a problem, but an effect.

I'd left the RH pocket slightly unzipped and the flap velcro had tucked itself in the pocket...what I discovered was that the pocket itself must be lined with goretex 'cos when I parked up for ten minutes inside a shopping trolley greenhouse thingy at savacentre colney for a fag and a few minutes respite from the driving rain, I reached into the pocket and it was literally full of water....ARSE!!!!!

Luckily my smokes were in my tank bag and it was only my lighter in the pocket..a few minutes of it sitting upside down on the RH jug had it dry enough to spark up .

Very impressed though...apart from a small wet patch just above my navel (rainflap inbetetween two zips kinked i think) and a trickle of water down my back that had run down the back of my helmet and neck, I was bone dry.

The Scuberth visor though..thats another story...grrrr, bloody thing....I was shouting obscenities at it for the whole distance round the M25 'cos the bastard wouldnt stay open the half inch I needed....I don't want to take it back because i got it cheap and i like the hemet in general, so I'm going to put a piece of thin plastic in the joint to stiffen it up a bit I think......

Rallye 1

Truly excellent in summer heat, lots of ventilation and pockets. With the Goretex lining I find it warm enough in winter too. Like Schnauzer, I wear thermals (SubZero) and a thin fleece - warm as toast and VERY comfortable. From what I've heard, the II version is more of the same and better in some areas. Recommended.

if ya look at the fred about the schuberth importer in equipment, they replaced my hinge mechanism for free, aparantly it's a German "they all do that sir" type of thing, but the repair is FOC

:) :) :) :)

Alternative Jacket?

Try a Dianese X-Tech jacket, first class piece of kit! Good armour, back protector, goretex etc etc. I paid £399 for 1st version (2001), just bought old model 2003 for £199!! (reduced from £399) in sale, as a spare jacket. I do 12000 - 18000 miles a year in all weathers in Scotland!....hasn't let me down...cracking looking jacket also!!

Just a thought as BMW alternative?

Cheers:)

rallye 2 jacket

got a picture?does 54 equate to about 48inch chest?I have tried a 54 savanna 2 and that fits ok.Could be interested if it's the same.Andy

I have Rally II as well as Streetguard. Reason for Rally II was mainly experience from last summer, when I returned from ride to Corsica. I said, that I will never ever go on such long summer trip in Goretex jacket/pants without ventilation. Streetguard is fantastic in colder/rainy weather. Great for alps during spring/fall... But in the +30C is it pain. NO VENTILATION. Not to mention black color, what accumulate even more heat. Horrible. So, now I have option to ride in light gray colored Rally II with plenty of vents and If I need, I can install Goretex lining for rainy days or so...
So if you look for jacket for colder/rainy weather - buy something like Streetguard/Tourguard. If you travel in the summer heat, buy Rally II.
