Thoughts on this please

Wouldn’t worry about mileage. Tall saddle. I had one about 8 years ago. Stated tank capacity is 24 litres I filled up at 27. So a big tank. I think about 300 mile range. Tubed tyers are a pain if you get a puncture. It’s possible to make them tubeless. I’d happily have one again. I can’t say if it’s good value or not. Depending on the options there is an electric adjustment on the rear shock/spring. I’d imagine if present that it’s well past it’s best or has been replaced. Front dives like a submarine but can be sorted with aftermarket springs. JJH

Don’t look like it has esa. Aftermarket end can. I personally like the original to be there. JJH

SORRY IT doesn’t look like an adventure so a small 15 litre tank. Not quite so high a seat. JJH

Can’t ride it there from the UK, you’ll get wet :D

I’ll get me coat !!!!!!

Thanks lads. He also has it on Ebay starting bid £3500.
Apart from Steve ;)

Virtually no information in the advert, ie what is the general condition, any service history, when was it last serviced, does it need consumables, is it HPI clear, does it run well, how many keys, does it have the V5 and book pack etc, these are all things I’d be asking, why isn’t at least some of this info there? Its highish mileage and 10 years old, although only 6k yearly average.
I’m not familiar with this model or it’s value but gut feeling is it’s not a bargain. A conversation with the owner will reveal more.
Just looking at the pics, does the chain look too tight, or do they run them like that.

Just seen this, might be better at £3.5k, I’d still want more info though, is there more on the EBay ad?

4 owners. I’d assumed the revelant info was buried in the add. Not that I could see. It’s a very minimal add. Why? When I’m advertising something I try to cram in as much info as I can. JJH

Info lacking on the Ebay ad. More info on the Autotrader one.

Less information so possibly more to hide?

Unless I’m missing something,no info
Rear tyre looks buggered
Although these bikes have a good rep for reliability it’s done some miles,so budget on full service, tyres, and anything else.
With a similar budget, you could buy this, have it prepped for the trip, buy full luggage and have a bit left over for beer.:thumby: https://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php/599091-Bmw-G650GS-Sertao

I rented one of these (the Trophy model) in Johannesburg in November for a months touring (see https://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php/589603-Gaels-in-Mozambique?highlight=Mozambique).

Potentially a great bike with good fuel consumption and general design but very heavy and more importantly, very top heavy (IMHO).

So I would be reluctant to tackle challenging conditions in Iceland (never been there, mind!) with such a big bike.

But others more competent than I am, surely have!

Good luck in what you eventually decide….but I would be going for a KTM 690 enduro, I

If I was planning a trip to Iceland and needed a bike I would snap this one off eBay as fast as I could. I did the GlobeBusters TransAm trip on my 2008 F800GS and they are not too heavy for such a trip. When many people do trips like the one planned on 1200/1250 GS’s and the 1200 Triumph the 800 is a doddle to ride, plenty comfortable enough, and cheaper to run.

I'd be paying a grand or so more...and getting a far lower miles one with a 2 yr BMW warranty. Payback will be when you sell it on with some warranty left (Presuming you won'y be keeping it after the trip ?)

Bike will be sold on to a client in Iceland. Got to be a 800gs and my budget was 5 grand or cheaper.
Bit complicated but I will purchase a bike and get a free trip and sell the bike. I'm lucky I've done this a couple of times going out to Iceland on bikes for this guy.

Ah, ignore the £6k one then.....I must confess, I'd still look elsewhere than the 60k miler simply as all the anciliaries are likely to be well worn by that mileage. There are a couple with less than half that for similar money

I would be wanting more information, close up photographs .... corrosion on the front of the engine, the sump etc.

Great bikes though. 150,000 miles on mine, in ten years. Original clutch, timing chain, valves had never needed adjusting and were bang on halfway between max and min permitted. Didn't burn any oil either.

What Micky says ^^^^^.:beerjug:

Best engine BMW have put in a motorcycle IMHO. 133,000 miles on mine and still going strong.:thumb2
