I've just bought a mirror, supposedly off an R1200GS, but it doesn't have a thread at the base to screw into the boss on the handlebar.
Mine's a March '07 GSA, were earlier ones different?:nenau

You have the right mirror. There is no actual thread on the shaft of the mirror this is so you can swivel it to your preffered position.I can only assume you need the clamping assy also.Basically a Male/Male adapter one end (looks about M10 poss fine)Screws into the bracket on the handle bar.The other end has a larger thread on it(M14?fine?)a hole for the mirror shaft and a taper on the end with four slots cut in its length its nut has a coresponding taper which when you tighten the nut clamps the mirror shaft. The whole lot has a pretty rubber cover over it to hide it all!:rob

Hhmmmmmmmmmm............ i reckon i could have explained that better!:augie

Sorry, small thread hijack... but is this why my right hand mirror always vibrates at an annoying 80mph :blast

:D

Possably!Try tightening it with a 17mm Spandangler :thumb2

P.S Whats so annoying about 80MPH?,Personally I find 108 MPH annoying as the TKC 80's cause the bike to start weaving !

Karnevil, thanks for the reply, I know where you're coming from...
This is how the two mirror stems compare, mine is the one on the right, with the adaptor. As it was a 'pre-owned' one, I just assumed that they were like that on early 1200GSs.
I think I'll have to thread the shaft of the 'new' one on the left. :blast
