Doing a search on balancing TB's i came across a post from Big Lad who mentioned a condition i have on my 2002 adventure.
The bike idles at approx 1000 /1100 r/min engine is quiet, but noise comming from both throttle bodies, if grab hold of the cable quadrant on the TB it stops, let go and the rattle again, its actually quite noisey, its only on idle that it does it
has anyone else had this, could the cables be too tight ?

any suggestions

thanks

Sounds like the bearing that supports the shaft and pulley is worn. With the engine off place your finger on the nut that retains the pulley - is there any movement?. If so then the bearing's worn. You may also hear a click/tapping.

The pictures show the throttle body off my 1100 [60k miles]. The butterfly valve is held in the shaft by screws [2 off] and is not shown.

I think some people have replaced just the bearing. Howevr, when I came to remove the shaft it was looking like quite a bit of brute force and ignorance was going to be needed so I replaced the RH throttle body. 144GBP from Motorworks. If you do order a new one there are numbers on the lower part of the body and you may need these when you phone.

Never noticed any tapping noise prior to replacing the TB but it was getting increasingly diffcult to balance the TBs' and low speed running was getting a touch wooly. All fine now though.

my 96K mile rattles like a good"un from the L/H side only .

the rattle is nearly always on the L/H side - you can get rid of the rattle by setting up your T/B's with no cable slack -

some ratle at 10k others at 80K - every bike is diferent

Thanks for the response

the bike has done 20k , had a look at the TB's last night and there is no play at all, the noise travels back into the airbox where it is amplified, and is obviously louder when the seat is off.
If i listen with a Stethoscope on both of the TB's, the noise goes away at 3000r/min

I think i should balace them up , put the seat on and ride it:beer:
