Riding home tonight and all of a sudden the throttle felt loose and the bike ran like a pig. This happened to me once before when the throttle body cable holder return spring broke (dunno the parts correct name), so i thought this might be the case again. Limped home and subsequently found that the cable holder section had fallen off the throttle body and was dangling by the throttle cable

I have managed to bodge it with a spare spring and a self tapper screw holding the cable holder in place. It would seem that there is no securing method for these as standard as the other side has no securing method. I can only assume that the brass butterfly is preened over to retain the cable holder.

I think after nearly 155,000 miles on my 2001 GS it might be time to find so lower mileage throttle bodies.:)

Throttle Bodies

Hi GSART

155,000.........excellent, and I thought I was doing well having just past 100k!

I had my throttle bodies refurbed by Steve Scriminger, who is based at Sleaford, Lincs (www.scriminger.co.uk) who did an excellent job. This involves rebushing and fitting new shafts etc which should cure your problem.

Price was approx £50 per side + VAT and Delivery.

Thanks Dazlove,

It is something I will do. I need the bike on the road 6 days a week, so I am going to get a set of second hand ones while mine are refurbished.

That should keep it plodding well past the magic 200k :)

Throttle Bodies

Hi again GSART

That is exactly what I had to do as I use the GS for commuting day in day out. (I don't do cars!)

I bought a set of second hand ones that I sent away to be rebushed so that I could keep the old girl on the road throughout.

If you need a spare set, take a note of the numbers on the base, ie 75/110 and PM me as I still have my old set on the shelf, which I could do you a deal on.

Please note that these are my original ones that I thought were worn, but might get you out of a spot whilst yours are rebushed.
