30,000 mile 2002 1150.

loud ticking mainly from the right throttle body.
Thought about buying a "ticker killer" but that I believe just masks the problem.

On grabbing the quadrant the cable wraps around there appears to be quite a bit of play present which I assume is in the throttle body shaft.

Prepared to rebuild the TB if necessary but what sort of mileage does this normally need to be done at?
As the bike is running well, should I just ignore the ticking?

yep....they all do that sir,if as you say its running all right you will soon get used to it

Yep if you can tolerate the racket, you can safely ignore it - up to a point.

Eventually the throttle shaft can have so much slop that it affect your ability to balance the throttle bodies properly (mine did) and the diesel like racket coming from your engine gets embarrassing ;)

I had both my throttle bodies stripped down and rebushed by Steve Scriminger - nice and quiet now.

+1:thumb2

Had mine done at 80k, by Steve Scriminger (excellent chap!) have since done another 40K and still all ok.

If you search through the posts (poss 'loomin hell), I still believe that mine were so shot it was making the bike run very rough on an even throttle, all appeared to be corrected once the TB's were rebushed.

..and another. I had only the r/h one done. This was at around 26,000 miles on an 1100RS. I dunno why some seem to wear out this fast. Anyway, it's nice and quiet now and a bit easier to synch the throttles.

Mine are both rattling badly now (at about 100k) and on Friday, on a big decelleration down a hill towards some lights one made a long scary screetching noise, which was nice.

There is a very friendly gentleman on this site that makes DIY rebuild kits which I have recently purchaced but haven't had a gap to be able to fit yet. So that might be a cheaper option if you're ok with the spanners.

It depends on where the bike has been used mostly. Like for cruising or in town mostly where the throttle sees a lot of action and wear in the end.

Dan.
