Took the tank off to access the battery put it back and started the bike. The bike is revving way too high. Looked for the usual suspects , the throttle outer cable not sitting correctly in the throttle housing seat, and both were fine. However when I look at the left hand throttle housing pulley (the wheel that the throttle cable is attached to) I notice that the pulley is not returning to the fully closed position but is in fact nearly an inch short of it. I can't see why. Any suggestions ?

That'll be the throttle body cable not seated fully at the other end, where it enters the throttle cassette.

Hold the throttle body pully firmly with one hand, and twist the throttle grip open with the other. That should reseat it at the cassette.

I had one of the throttle return springs snap which resulted in the same thing but I guess you'd notice that. More likely to be Steptoe's suggestion. Could also be a frayed cable inside the sleeve.

Thanks I will give that a go when I get back to the bike on Saturday.

If steppers hint dosent work do look at the theottle cables as mine started doing this miles from home resulting in a lift from the RAC!.

Steptoes solution worked, thank you sir. Now if only I can remember where the two breather/overflow tubes were routed.

Outside the upper frame rail, inside the lower one (or whichever way works for you - there are no rules ;) )
