hi guys

Tried to adjust mine last night and it appears to have went quite wrong.

How do i tighten off after my adjustment, do i simply turn the nut at the bottom into the housing? tried this but simply keeps turbibg. Or am i suppose to close up the adjuster nut at the top with the lower one.

After much mindless fettling it appears the cable now has loads of slack around the housing below the bottom nut and i can seem to get it back to normal.

Any ideas what i have done wrong?

I would really appreciate some useful pointers.
Thanks

Hello Mate,

Found this on THIS forum, don't know how to attach a link but its in the "Techincal And Rider" section "The Font Of All Knowledge" sub section, the thread is called "online motorcycle repair course".

IT might help!

Good Luck

This may be a useful site for those who would like to do some work on their bike themselves but just don't have the knowhow or confidence to take it on.

It's an American site so some of the terms used may differ but it's a pretty handy resource. The author seems a bit weird sometimes, but appears to know his stuff.

You don;t sync 1200's at tickover it's better as we discovered at the dealership to sync them at approx 3000 rpm

What nuts are you taking about ?

Cable adjusters??

IF so you just set the throttles and nip the cable adjuster locknut GENTLY against the plastic surface

The throttle cable from the twistgrip goes into a 'splitter box' under the fuel tank (on the LHS of the bike). It operates a camwheel which drives the two cables that open/close the throttle butterflies (where you set synch).

It's possible that you have introduced enough slack to allow these secondary cables to slip off the camwheels inside the splitter box.

You may need (assuming this has happened) to remove the fuel tank, open up the lid of the splitter box and reseat the throttle cables.

Does the throttle twistgrip mechanical action have a lot of rotation freeplay before resistance is felt ??

Whatever happens don't panic, you haven't broken anything just introduced a lot of slack somewhere that needs rectifying.

seems as though a part of the threaded bit below the locking nut has broke off, possibly a reason why the lock nut had no resistance when i tried to tighten it after sync - thanks for the quick replies though
