Hi folks,I have an r1150gs. I was out for a run today and the bike was performing perfectly normally. I turned on the heated grips and after about 30 minutes I noticed that any time I released the throttle to slow down or to change gear the engine speed did not respond but continued to rev on . Even when I came to a stop and took my hand off the throttle it continued to rev. A short time later I turned off the heated grips and within a few minutes I noticed that the problem disappeared ie the revs would die away when the throttle was released.
My question is this, is it possible when heated grips are turned on that the heat generated can cause some expansion and this prevents the throttle returning to idle.
I know this may sound far fetched but it is all I can think of.

I would appreciate any help offered.

could be loosen the bar end and use a drift (lump of wood and hammer) to knock the controls over a touch. might solve it.

did on mine...

Well known problem with heated grip expanding lengthways. Either remove bar end weight and add a washer or two or loosen switchgear clamp bolt and move inwards slightly. Watch hitting the switchgear as you can crack the mounting.

Many thanks gents. When I read your reply's about moving the switch gear I remembered that this unit had been replaced last year so obviously it was fitted too close to the end of the bar. Will carry out adjustment and hopefully this will solve the problem.
Again many thanks for prompt reply.

Regards Niall
