Go easy with me folks as this is my first post!

Just bought my first GS recently. Needs a bit of TLC and I have loads of questions -most of which I can find loads of answers to on here ...although some answers seem to confuse me more!

Anyway...first question. Don't really want to fork out for panniers just yet which I know will get little use, so has anybody tried any cheap throwovers like Oxford Products which seem dead cheap at the mo? Do they fit, fall off etc?

Ahhhh, aint that nice. Buys a nice big RTW bike then wants us to be gentle with him.

You are now a Tosser. Stand up straight when you are being spoken to ! Thats better.

Well done on your choice of bike and welcome to the real world.

Get TLCing, read the FAQ's and do a search re your questions.

As a Tosser *YOU* can make anything fit and prevent it from falling off.

Post some photos ( I said, read the faq's) soon so we can decide if its a fast one or not.

;)

'Ello again Pylie!

Yep, I've got some cheapo throwovers that I sometimes use if my big Vernatechs are off but I need some carrying capacity at short notice.

They are fine....just lash them down (mine rise up and try to take off over 90mph so I bungee the bottom front corners down) and if you really are only going to use them occasionally, cheapo ones will do.

But pretty soon, you'll see lots of chat about 'land's end', and hopefully you'll want to come along and talk bollox with everyone, go for a ride out and maybe even have a shandy ........then you'll be hooked BWAHAHAHAHA....we'll have you in our evil grasp and before you know it, you'll be doing all the meets with full camping kit and will be looking for some decent metal boxes.

Yep, throwovers will do, for the time being ;)

I always used to use oxford sport panniers on my Africa Twin. I found that they fitted the twin perfectly and just cleared the exhaust, however on the GS (1150) I am yet to figure out a way of mounting them so that they don’t sit on the exhaust. Haven’t really put much effort in TBH and have since discovered the joys of top box usage which suits the GS image well, i.e. form most definitely follows function:D If anyone else has fitted oxford panniers to the GS and managed to clear the exhaust, I’d be grateful for a pic :thumb

Er.......it's all flooding back to me now through my befuddled alcoholic state......

I put mine on backwards......they're supposed to go on with the narrow end to the front so they look aerodynamic, but that means the lowest point of the pannier is closest to the highest point of the 'zorst.

If you turn them around, the tapered end lines up paralell to the 'zorst and clears it nicely.....

Think outside the box ;)

Now you're talking. Lands End? Is that the Lands End Long Distance Trial or something else? Ridden a few enduro's on 'slightly' (read very) more light weight bikes but I REALLY fancy trying the GS off road.

Thats why I was happy buying a high miler with a few battle scars rather than a 'minter' which you really wouldn't want to take out in the wet or show it a bit of mud....

I've never used throwovers on the GS, but have done on numerous sports bikes.

I find that they are OK, but do have a tendency to 'flex / move'. Which led me to be a little more reserved in my riding. (Maybe not a bad thing)

I never lost any of them but always was aware.

Then I bought the Ventura luggage (Aeropack). A fantastic buy, attaches when necessary, removes very simply, with no ugly frame (very important when riding a Ducati - it's gotta look good).

It is completely stable doesn't move around, gives confidence, holds loads of gear and is better than a pillion as it doesn't talk back

I'd highly recommend them.
