With the amount of crap I've bolted onto the 1100GS I figured I should think about upping the insurance on the bike. I had it insured for €3500.

So sent off an email to an address I had for someone in Adelaide not really thinking it would go anywhere and fully expecting to be ringing them later.

10 minutes after the email was sent the phone rang and it was a guy from Adelaide. The email had been forwarded to him.

So he asked a bit about the bike and the extra accessories (ADV tank, Verns panniers, Sargent seat, Ohlins, Aeroflow screen, engine bars etc etc). He said fine, we'll increase the value to €6000.

I asked the question - "how much?". Nothing! Free of charge. Not even an "administration fee".

That's how to keep business if you ask me. I dred to think how the conversation would have gone if I was with Quinn - €50 admin fee I'd expect for a start and everything would probably be a "performance modification".....

Just actually got a qoute from Adelaide for €460 TPF&T. Quinn (current insurer) were €550 and Carole Nash (which appears to be the best policy) for €462.

Adelaide

I moved to them from AON, and got 485 euro fully comp (08 GSA)

very friendly as Essjay said, and very quick to get back to you about things

I did call them last year but they won't insure multiple bikes on the one policy, same as Quinn. Stuck with Aon at the moment who incidentally charge a fee if I change bikes on the policy, whereas Quinn don't (son insured with them...) Bring back the old Norwich Union Rider policy is what I say :rob

That's a bit odd - I had multiple bikes with Adelaide last year and it was only a €25 admin fee to add them on.

I paid €445 this year for an 07 1200 gsa and a 1990 honda 90 with fully comp on both of them.

I'm reluctant to reveal what I'm paying Oakland for fully comp on an 08 1200 GSA with protected no claims bonus....... including £1000 worth of bling added.....

But it's between £120 and £130........ :D

There's gotta be some concessions for living up Norf!

With who Nailler ?
I'm struggling to get below €600 with an 09 GSA & an 07 XChallenge. And I'm no longer a spring chicken :rob

FFS, Aon quoted me €659 for the ADV and the DRZ. Both fully comp with bonus protect... (Discount for Axa assessment and having car insurance with them)

Just got a renewal quote from Adelaide yesterday. They'll do Fully Comp on the Adv and 3rd party only on the DRZ with bonus protect for €423....
Legal protection is €25 extra and breakdown cover is extra €45.

They won't cover the DRZ any more than 3rd party (not even theft).

Adelaide are great. Big thumbs up from me. Been with them for bike and car for years now. Had an accident and their claims handling was pretty good. Very helpful team.

The Folks in Open and Direct at Coleraine are VERY HElpful and teh prices are good and they have Multi bike policies

The Tigger and Dommie on one policy £90 :aidan:aidan

He got it with Adelaide. Origional quote was over €700 and then rang them back and got it for €445

My insurance was up for renewal and they quoted me €520 or something. I went to the Quinn site, got an online quote which was around €460 and rang Adelaide back. They "put it through the system" again and came back with €450.

Update

Auntie Carole wanted € 658 - after having my business for the last 8 years & I never even called them for a breakdown. That's what you get for loyalty

So I submitted a quote request to Adelaide who came back to me yesterday. First shot, no haggling, was € 485 for everything that I'm getting from CN.

Tried Quinn but their website kept telling me I live in NI  Feck them if they can't make their site work.....

Rang CN & explained that, while I was happy with their policy, I didn't love them enough to just bend over for them. I stayed on the phone while they 'phoned the underwriter' and suddenly had a quote of € 443 for everything I'd had before :bounce1

Not bad for 10 minutes work. Now, if I could repeat that for the other 2390 minutes in every week I'd be a happy (& very rich) man :D

NB: Price is for a 50 y.o. with 8 years NCB; 09 GSA & 07 XChallenge, comprehensive, both garaged at home in Kildare.
And I know it's much cheaper 'over the border' :P

renewed mine the other day.
fed up with all the bollockology - though i got quotes from the others,
i've stuck with AXA.
best deal for me.

i keep hearing daft stories about Carole Nash.
they've gone from 'market leaders' to a joke for most people and are losing business to such an extent you'd think they were deliberately trying to leave the Irish market :nenau

but,
money aint got no friends - if anyone can get a good deal off them - good luck and go for it :thumb2

I left CN after a run in with them. Cancelled a policy and they wouldn't refund enough so got the insurance ombudsman or someone after them. Quinn I just generally don't like - the Ryanair of insurance.....

Very happy with Adelaide - €450 for the 1100GS, 34 y.o with the bike non garaged in Crumlin (is in my back yard though). Fully comp.

Jockser - great bit of work there. It does pay to get a second quote....

If only to beat your current insurer with ;)

I agree. Shop around and check what you are paying for. Adelaide quoted me for renewal this year but CN undercut it by about 10% and included breakdown cover which I value as the AA were going to charge me over 120 euros for the car and bike to renew their breakdown cover. My car ins. now also covers breakdown so I saved on both. Shop around.
