just back from thundersprint, hot sticky sunshine, over 100,000 people. The air display by the Spitfire stole the show again (what a sight and sound) other goodies, Metal Mule had a 800gs kitted out with system2 panniers and top box, nice kit but not cheap and of course the sprint itself was fast, loud, and too small a circut around that car park.

just got back meself too. Beat the thunderstorm too :)
They should just bite the bullet, close Northwich and do a lap of the town centre on the roads - they simply cannot fit 100,000 people round a pay and display carpark - its comedy trying to see the circuit, let alone find a spot to sit and watch anything! But, I keep going year on year and love it.

That's a brilliant idea!:thumb2

A road loop would be much better and many people can't even see the racing.

Got soaked last year and couldn't make it this time.:(

Maybe next time

Saw this group of BSAs huddles in the shade - Defiantely my biking photo of the year so far! I reckon a street circuit in Northwich would be easy - up past the civic centre, right past kwik save, right again past J and S and start finish by the bridge - EASY!!

Been to the Thundersprint for the first time myself- but not as a spectator. I was helping out in the assembly area so didnt get much chance to see the racing, but did see the riders close up. For information, I was the guy in the rizla suzuki floppy hat with the flowers in it.

I had a fantastic day- one of the best racing days in ages, apart from having the spectators rob all our ambulances by getting heatstroke- apparently one spectator had spent all day smoking dope and drinking vodka, so if you were disappointed you didnt see any racing half way through the afternoon, blame those idiots for not taking on enough water.

I bought a pair of kevlar jeans at the Manchester show in January- today has been the first day I have had to try them out- BIG mistake. Should have just stuck to what I know- ordinary bike trousers with thin combats underneath.

Would that be floppy suzuki hat and Manx GP marshall tabard??
Was hoping to get over for marshalling this years TT but wont be able to make it - still time to sort the Manx though I suppose.... Need more signatures!

Yes, that was me.

Its the only time the tabard is going to get used in anger this year- I'm not going to the TT either.Been for the last nine years, but due to the steam rackets exhorbitant costs I am not going. Bike, rider and passenger £280 for an overnight crossing to sleep on the floor. I have paid £180 for a ferry to Holland with a cabin- no contest. Actually prefer the manx to the TT in some ways- more relaxed, no idiots cutting you up and easier to get about, plus the weather is usually better. Going to Galway instead- paid £330 for a ferry and a weeks accomodation- only £50 more than just getting to IOM- its no contest really.

Until there is a better discount scheme for marshals than I am afraid I am not going. Spent the last nine years on my annual holidays there and have decided to broaden my horizons. I do enough racing all summer and need a break- let me see- Three sisters racing and Aintree test day last week, the Thundersprint on sunday, Aintree next saturday, then Oulton Park twice in June and another Aintree meeting before I go on holiday. Thats enough racing....

Just a hello and thanks for passing the time of day with me in the holding area just before the cavalcade - I was the guy and wifey with the black 850gs - cavalcade was a scream this year, there is something strangely satisfying about undertaking a police bike in excess of the usual speed limit on town roads!!!!!!!!!!
fantastic day

Do you marshall for the BSB with Marshalls Northwest? I did a few meets with them a couple of years back. I'm keen to try and get my racesafe so I can marshall there. I agree with you on the TT racket - its extortion of the worst kind and has put me off too. I bet their prices will go up again with the news of one of the airlines going pop.

I am in fact chairman of Marshals Northwest- and yes I do BSB on occasion.

To do BSB you have to be a member of Racesafe- and have to do one of their training days. Their membership list is now closed for this year, but will open it again in winter.

Racesafe are NOT doing MotoGP this year, so you dont have to be a member of racesafe to volunteer- you only need to be a registered marshal. This may preclude you this year, but there is always next. Had racesafe been doing it they would have insisted on you doing a number of BSB meetings first.

What is always a good idea is to get some practice club racing- its just as good and there is lots of it about in the north west.

Have a look at the website www.marshalsnorthwest.co.uk - all the dates are on there. If you want to get a bit of practice and need some more information drop me a PM or send me an email- the address is on the website.

I was there too, loaded up after camping at the rugby club. There was a few tossers bikes there but didnt see the tossers themselves.

One of our friends was racing the thundersprint and came third in his class, RESULT!!!! :D

Number 115 - Thiumph Bonneville for those who have a good memory.

Working on a bit of vid so will post when I get a minute.

I bloody missed the spitfire demonstration as I was sat in the granstand and the fecking roof was in the way for 99% of the time. :(
