Tiff files

I find I've got a few old .tiff files, from 2002 but when I try to open them I get - A component of the application is missing, please reinstal the application.
But I've no idea what the application is.
I've tried a simple convert to .gif or .jpg but that doesn't work.
I've been a googling but didn't find any answers there.
Any hints and tips appreciated.

What operating system are you using? Vista, XP or something else?

You might also try viewing with Irfanview.

It's OK, hold the front page, done it.
Right click, open using Paint Shop Pro, save as .jpg file, job done, merci bien.

No, scrap that.
Open with Paint Shop Pro works nicely but saving as jpg does not.
So that will do, as long as I remember that in 6 months time.
