I'm trying to wire in my satnav to my new Tiger 900 GT Pro. I want to pick up the feed for the usb socket on the dash. There's a plug and socket I can use but I'm struggling to get the plug apart.

I also need to get a male plug to wire the satnav in with. Ideally I'd like two plugs and two sockets so I can make up a Y piece connector and plug both the satnav and USB in at the same time.

How does the plug and socket come apart and where can I get the new plugs and sockets from please? (it's very different messing with a brand new bike)

Pictures below, thanks in anticipation

If your GT is like my RP then the socket there is permanently live. I connected my sat nave cradle to the supply side of the USB socket under the rear seat. This only becomes live once the engine is running not just ignition on. The reason I connected to the supply side and not just into the usb socket is so that I can still charge my phone or power bank as well as using the sat nav. It was very straightforward to do and quite easy to route the cable through to the front for the sat nav cradle. It’s been like this three years now and has worked well.

Thanks Glenn, I did look at the supply side of the underseat socket but couldn't get at the back of it very easily. There was a plug and socket in the way that I couldn't undo - It's amazing how tentative I've become pulling things apart on a new bike compared to my old one.
How did you tap in to the feed for the underseat USB? Was feeding the cable through to the front of teh bike easy enough?

I just broke into the supply side of the USB and spliced in the cable to the sat nav cradle. Getting the cable from front to back was pretty easy too. Just finding a route through the area under the tank was the most difficulty but it did go through. I think a used some domestic lamp flex as it was easier than trying to feed separate wires through.

Thanks, I might go back to that option if I can't work out the front socket option. At the moment plugging straight in to the feed for the front USB seems the most attractive - if I can find the right plug to fit the existing socket on the loom.

PS, it's a superb bike, I'm really enjoying it
They are a very good bike and much lighter than either of my last two bikes. The Super Tenere and the R1200 GS. I have so far toured The French Alps Twice, Provence, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Scotland twice, Ireland and Norway. I’ve a Scotland trip booked in July and so far the bike has been great. I did drop it coming down the Col de Somellier last August. That’s a pretty tough ride on the Tiger perhaps next time I’ll use my DR 650.

I too have moved on to the Tiger from a R1200GS, that is a great bike too but I wanted something newer and lighter. I'm still running mine in - I'm envious of your tour list!

For my new V85, I just searched YouTube which told me where to find an unused switched live socket and the exact make of plug needed. I then found a source on eBay with plugs with 10 cm leads. Simple job to solder these onto the device leads

Simple , safe way of doing this - buy a “ Healtech Thunderbox “
2 tails onto battery
Then just pop wires into the connector blocks as it suits you , simple , easy and safe .
It only comes live after the motor is running . But it does much more than that

I have a thunderbox but wanted it live with the ignition on to keep my satnav powered when stopped or to use my tyre pump.
The auto mode detecting the engine on is fine for some applications but not all

Thanks for the replies, I think I'm almost there, I just need to be able to get the plug and socket in hte pictureabove apart and then find a new male plug (with some tails as Wessie suggests) to plug in my satnav.

In case anyone else needs to wire this in. I got the new plug and socket from kojaycat.co.uk A "HM02-BLK-SEALED" did the job. You can also get a "Triumph Tiger 850 / 900 Y splitter" from the 'bay
Happy wiring and thanks to those who made suggestions

If you've not got it sorted yet. Under the phone charged tray there is a socket for an alarm that has switched live. you need one of these

Its an 8 pin socket but the switched supply is each end of the top row of pins. (i think, check with a meter i did it a year ago)

Thanks for the reply. I sorted it with a new plug for my satnav that fits the usb socket feed at the back of the TFT display unit. I got it from the link above in my post.

It's great having the sat nav working on just plug and play as it ought to, instead of faffing about with extra leads
