I have noticed recently that I am having some difficulty getting my leg over'
now before you all recon you have the same problem, my trouble is purely physical. My cancer is affecting my hips and trying to throw me leg over the bike and panniers is getting more difficult. I could ,I suppose ride without the ally boxes but the bike looks and rides so much better with them on that I would rather leave them on.
So the alternative is to sell my beloved "Bertha" and buy a lower model. So what would you suggest?. I have seen a couple of nice looking rt's( airheads of course) plus there are also rs's, a rather nice looking 750 and a nice unfaired 100. I am sure there are others out there too.these are on fleabay.
I have owned a couple of RT's and loved them.
So what do ya think. I recon Bertha would be worth about 2500 so should get a pretty nice one for that.?
in the past I would have got a rough one and done a rebuild but really not up to it now,

oilhead i know, but a rockster maybe if you cant get an airhead?

Before you go...

and change Bikes, may i suggest;

A lower rear shock and perhaps drop the forks in the yokes a wee bit? :nenau

My R100gs came with a rear shock from an R100R.
Dunno how much of a difference there is - but it's visible if you put mine alongside a standard one, and this Bike is the first ever Bike in over 30 years that the handling is perfect (for me) 'straight out of the box'. :)
.. and the roads i travel tend to have 'interesting' surfacing. :D

Works for me / may not suit everyone (anyone? ) else.

But cheaper and less hassle than getting rid of a Bike you know you like otherwise.
Maybe worth trying.

What about a 'Mystic' ? Bloke I know went from an R80 to one for similar reasons.

Oh, forgot to mention he was 80 when he changed bikes :thumb

I'll have my RS at the WEE.

Your welcome to give it go.

Thanks guys, The Mystic sounds pretty good and I must admit I have always fancied an RS though I feel the lanes in Cornwall may mean I would be restricted to main roads. Thanks for the offer of a go though. Im in no rush and would have to sell Bertha first. Bit more thought needed I think.:augie

Mate of mine converted his r1100rs to an outfit as pelvic injuries prevent him getting his leg over a solo.
So much more class than a trike... impo of course:D

Ferret, You can see a pic of Bertha on the "Show us your Paralevers" bit at the top of the airheads section.. first page. If you would like more , I will post some. I have changed the front lights a bit though.

Redboots, thanks but a trike od outfit is not yet on the agenda.

I would also like to stay with an airhead as I like it in here. .... Or am I being fussy?

No to fussy, just sensible. After working on my K1 the airheads become even more attractive :eek

Mechanical simplicity, competent ride, potential appreciation in value, membership of this illustrious group :augie

As Ferret asked to see some pics of Bertha as she is now and I cant seem to see a way of putting them on a private message, No "manage attachments" button, I will put them on here if thats ok

Fit wider pegs + sturdier sidestand (towards the centre of the bike) so you can step onto footpeg over the bike instead of climbing over it from the ground - a tried and tested trick by short arses like myself :D

That is of course if the actual stopping and riding does not affect your hips as well. The sure foot stand or migsel should do the trick I think :nenau

I know it is not the correct way to mount a bike but some times you have to improvise :beerjug:

Yeah, that may be a solution, I can get on ok although with a bit of difficulty but getting off the bugger is a bit of a trial. Riding and stopping is fine. May have to give that some thought:thumb
