My 1250 gsa goes on Tuesday. Its been the best bike to use in terms of comfort, performance etc but never have I broken down so much and not been able to sort it out myself and I had a 1976 meriden t140 back in the day. Not only has it been unreliable but expensive too. I thought about trading it but got offered nowt for it and new 1300 that will be more of the same for 22 grand so they can keep that. So its 10k for a new yamaha mt09sp and theres no shortage of good bikes in this price bracket. I even considered a f900gs but 15k for a Chinese powered twin seems a little steep.......and relax!

Good move . Cracking CP3 motor on the MT09.
Stick will be along in a minute to say it’s dull but he’s not happy unless he’s knee down at 120 mph on his wankpanzer.
At least you’ll have a trust worthy bike with the best soundtrack available
And you don’t need to carry around your Noco jump starter

Wouldn’t overlook the R12T (or NineT) Recommend test riding - it’s lighter and lot less complicated than GS. Bullet proof old air cooled engine too

As soon as I saw Brummy blokes post I thought, oh no, here we go again😂

Brummy bloke, sorry to hear of your troubles with the GS, I hope you’re happy with the MT.
Hands up, if I only rode solo I’d be seriously considering the 900 Yamaha but in Tracer GT form. Despite having other makes I do consider myself a Yamaha guy.

I may look at an older oilhead at some point but for now ive got my old r1 wot I finished over the winter period and the mt09 for everything else. A bloke in our bike club just paid 24k for a 1300! tbf he may well be richer than me but I cant spend that sort of money and then be at the side of the road cos it wont start

on the downside, there isnt a forum for mt09s that can touch this one for top blokes and help for when your in the poo!

What's the
So its 10k for a new yamaha mt09sp

What's the attraction of the SP - the cruise control? If it was fitted to the base model, I think I'd be tempted to go for that, fit a set of fork cartridges and an Öhlins shock and have better suspension. I've seen it reported that the Öhlins which comes on the SP isn't as good as an aftermarket one.

They are cracking bikes. I went the cheap route and bought a very low mileage and mint 2016 Gen 1 last year. It came with an Öhlins on the rear, a full Akrapovič system, engine crash protection, comfort seat, handguards and side panels and a Puig fly screen. It only had 8K miles on it and I probably paid over the odds for it at £6.3K but it was the right bike at the right time.

Since then, I've fitted an Andreani cartridge kit in the fork legs and one or two other bits and pieces. I also had it mapped on the local race shop dyno. It now makes 117 hp at the rear wheel and 65 lbs-ft. I think it needs a steering damper and I believe I've got hold of an Öhlins one from a T7 which I'll fit.

On the road, it's pretty lively and feels like it wants to tear your head off. :D

A shame you’ve had enough. I’m not too far behind you with my turd. I used to ride the tyres off my bikes, with this one I think I’ve done probably only 3000 miles in two years. It’s a total disappointment.

I’m leaning towards a Z1000SX as a possible do it all bike to replace my 1250GSA Wankpanzer. Hell, if I could just trust the thing to start again at every brew stop or petrol station it would be a great improvement over my current bike.

well, i liked the paint , cruise control as you mention and the funky suspension. i test rode one and thought it was ace in the crap traffic that we enjoy in the midlands

to be fair its not a turdfest, its just unfortunate that bmw refuse to acknowledge the obvious and well documented issues with the bikes , but once out of warranty discover that what ones been whingeing about for years is a thing.....at least it didnt break down and catch fire like my 1200 did...honest

True, but there are a few of us MT09 owners on here so you’ll be in good hands
Perhaps I should have said that I have the Tracer 9 GT+ and I’m really enjoying it, it’s the same engine after all! Just had 3 days riding around North Wales and Anglesey in the company of my mate on his R1250GS. True, his GS did start each time but between the 2 bikes, as a former GS owner, the Tracer was brilliant to ride and tour on and probably more fun too! Try one, you won’t regret it.

When 1300 came out I was excited and when the dealer got one I went to see it. I was so disappointed. The look from the front was something not for my taste and the reports of the ride quality couldn't make me think I could "upgrade" my 1250. And the price tag... not worth a comment.
So, at that point I have decided to stick with my 1250 for some more time. Then I cought myself looking more and more at Kawasaki Versys 1000 SE.

Have to or hate to admit I’m looking forward to going back to Japanese
Bought a 2017 son the drip august time like a idiot . Throttle grip failed , indicator failed and now rear shock has gone . Still got my 09 gs so I thought I’d bring it out or retirement. Alternator seized up and every BMW place wanted to have my trousers down on a new one until I found a used Bosch.
High price to pay to have a snivelling dealer network with nice coffee.
And yes I’ve become accustomed to carrying a lithium jump pack ffs.
Mt10 is calling

I have my 2 year old gsa and my 25 year old gs , will I be buying another new BMW after the 1250, sorry but no. Too expensive (I buy rather than rent).
When the 1300gsa comes out I can see that by the time you fit luggage the price will be in excess of £23,000 and that in the real world is ridiculous money for a toy.
Will I keep the 1250 but once the warranty is up I will have to see, after too many warranty issues on the last two 1200's the options are get rid or stump up for the insured warranty.
New Stelvio is looking better and better

I’ve decided to extend the current warranty on mine (seeing as I also buy my bikes rather than rent). If it was on PCP I’d be handing the bugger back but that’s not an option.

This GSA was meant to see me through into retirement so I’m gonna see if the dealers will diagnose the issue properly or replace the starter motor under warranty and hopefully that will be the end of it.

Hmmmmm , it’s a hard bike to ride .
