time to say goodbye to my bmw

A guy I work with traded his new V4 multistrada for the new GS1300 last August

All singing , dancing the configured price was north of £21k+ and i think they only offered 14k for the multi,

He traded it last week for a Triumph speed twin and a Honda 750 NCX

his trade in price wasn't to bad , 19K , but still he had a 6k hit on the purchase

i asked him why he was getting rid so soon

He felt it didnt offer him any variation, it was the same type of ride, day after day, And it got lost in the bike shed amongst the other Triumph Tigers & older GS's
:spl1f:Save me some , your rambling

Most of their bods we get to chat to are marketing wankers. Clueless. Couldn’t even get me one of their fancy staff Motorrad polos at NEC 2 years ago.
Best to write(email) their technical guys.
They usually respond and arrange service visit at your local dealer. This historically has been my best method for results

At the time BMW were well aware and the bike was at the request of BMW Germany being used by the dealer and was fitted with telemetric data recording equipment sending data re suspension performance back to the factory , but BMW technical UK denied there was a known issue (four or five on here had exactly the same problems) , when I sold the bike in September 2017 it sat in the dealers for months and then disappeared from the DVLA system ie it was never MOT'd , Insured or taxed . Found out it along with an initial production batch of F850 GS's with failed engines were shipped back to BMW Germany to be dissected and it was crushed

BMW UK regularly use the old ' that has never happened before' line , I got asked to leave the BMW stand at the NEC in 2014 when I collared the technical bods about the issues on my then new 2014 GSA LC and got that reply only for two other punters to jump in saying they had exactly the same issue.
On my 2018 model GSA that had the ECU go t@ts up in Austria the dealer was refreshingly open saying mine was the fifth bike they had with identical issues caused by cost cutting at the factory in fitting non branded ECU's in a production batch . BMW UK claimed they had never heard of the problem
HA ! aprilia did this with the sxv , told all the dealers it was just them . til it hit the forums.
i met a dealer in Cyprus , we had a 3 hour talk about it , i got him to join some forums to prove it wasn't just him.
water in the oil ( not head gasket )
ruined geny's by loose bolts
oil filter covers = plastic not metal
batteries to small.

I have had, once, the issue of not starting after a short stop and now carry a booster in the top box. However, I've owned my 1250 for 5 years/21,000 miles, and apart from the aforementioned non-start, I've had no issues with the bike.

Yes, there is some corrosion on the cylinders but I'm ok with that as it only gets a clean once or twice a year - used all year round.

Thank god for that , one less twat in my way xxxxx

And that is exactly why I don’t ride in the UK . Entitled bell ends, often on BMWs on a mission to show off their talent , even if they have little . Grow up

Anyway, still don’t get the comparison with a Yamaha MT 09 and a GSA 1250 (or 1200) - they’re completely different bikes?! There’s few bikes that have the road presence of a GSA!
New Goldwing was a hoot though, but maybe the missing link between bike and car?! Opinions and assholes - we all have them

Correct and they're the perfect complement to each other, so long as the BMW is a GS and not one of those lardy, oversize GSA things. ;)

Do you think 'road presence' is really a thing...? Serious question.... :nenau

I suspect it's down to the anything over 5' 10" being a waste of DNA issue.... :augie

I’m old school - need to be comfortable sitting on bike at NEC/ showroom. GSA fits me perfectly

I can confirm it is, my Forza has big headlights and those always on indicators, when I come up behind traffic everything gets out of my way, it’s hilarious

I do think it’s why a lot of folks don’t like the 1300GS though, it doesn’t look “impressive” enough

Yes I agree about it but not in relation to the GSA being just a few inches wider. I remember the last time I rode up from London wearing a white lid and with an HID in my old 2009 bike and being quietly surprised at how the sea of traffic parted to let me through. I didn't come up the Nile in a Moses basket, either.... :augie

I'm not really a Fifer, I just live here. Aye Beveridge Park used to be something else. Here's yours truly with the KDMC Trophy a few years ago.
Do you know who the most infamous person to ever handle this was....?
