time to say goodbye to my bmw

:ROFLMAO:

Ditto. The number of times I've been to bike meets where several GS riders have come in with full alloy panniers fitted (?) plus every touratech add on, including alloy tool boxes, bike fronts festooned with blackpool illuminations, when for most, it was a 10 or 20 mile ride out is a bit funny. Mandatory BMW branded clothing etc. I got speaking to one as I was interested in buying a GSA at the time, and asked about reliability, to which he responded "it took me around the Arctic circle, so no problems there" only to become red faced when I said "what, at 30 to 40mph the whole way round on billiard smooth roads for 150 mile stops between hotels?". There's a lot of BS acted out with some riders, but plenty, like a mate local to me just uses his and keeps each bike for at least 40K miles before changing them, and quietly goes off on his tod all across Europe with no sat nav, intercom, Christmas tree decorations or obligatory uniform. You get the same BS with sports bike riders though, in a different way. It takes all sorts but the GS remains a pretty decent all round platform for any motorcyclist. Not a reflection of the bike, just some riders.

My first proper bike was an RD400 and when out riding - other bikers seldom studied bike looking for ad-ons etc, but simply asked where I’d come from and where going

Harley guys in the States are the worst. If Harley didn’t make bikes - they’d just drive cars. Conversely, if Harley was only company to make - I’d happily own

PS. This is actually a “tractor” forum incase you forgot?! Maybe you just can’t afford one. No shame in that?!

As I also run a 2020 goldwing tour, which I bought new I think you’re a bit off the mark there . :blast

Yes, funnily enough, I get thumbs up when out on the S1000RR but when out on the GSA I’m judged in a very different way. Narrow minded cnuts!

I was considering buying a GSXR750 as a scratcher. I made the mistake of visiting Loomies cafe (local to me, hate the place) and approaching a guy in full race leathers who owned one. We got chatting along fine until he asked me what I rode. I pointed to my faithful old Hex GSA that had taken me everywhere and he just huffed and turned away to snub me. Ignorant cock had probably only ridden a few miles on his race replica. Narrow minded cnuts indeed.

Don’t wait for pipe n slippers time. Try one now, you may be surprised how good they are. Make sure you try a DCT version, it brings another dimension to the ride.

I sat on one at NEC and quite like mat black stripped down model, but that wasn’t my point. It was more you talking shit about GSA’s on a dedicated GS forum. Begs question why you’re even here?? Know it gets boring in the Hebrides except for the sheep?! lol

Been on here since my first GS in 2010. It’s hardly a GS specialist forum nowadays. No idea about the Hebrides comment.
Perhaps you are mixing me up with somebody else. Pay attention, don’t talk shit……we have experts on here to do that 😂

Yes, and I don’t initiate negative comments about any bikes or their riders. Each to their own. But I’m not going to sit back and listen to others attacking my choices. Especially on a GS forum. Apologies but hey ho

Never find the need to justify my choices particularly when it comes to bikes - it is not that important really ;)

PS - a typical collection of bikes at a UKGSER breakfast meet:

Apologies, I got you mixed up with like minded Arsehole! Lol
Guess I too can make sweeping generalisations

Duly noted, but I didn’t start negative chat. Know there’s a lot of slack afforded seasoned posters on here, but not by me?!

I’m not sure anyone has attacked your choices. It seems to me they are more concerned with the choices they have made…….

Agreed, but there was a couple that ruffled my feathers with very negative GSA chat and sweeping generalisations.
Anyway, I’m having a glass of Amarone now and forgotten about! Lol
All good

My 1250GS has let me down twice in 3 years.

1st time - flat battery due to DataTool tracker discharging the battery to the point that after 3 days it would be hit or miss if the bike would start - especially in very cold weather. Removed tracker as this model takes 50mA even when bike is off.

2nd time - due to battery dying of old age (just over 3 years) - BMW charger would say the battery was 100% full after just a few minutes but this was misleading as it appears to 100% of a much reduced capacity - so bike would start after just few minutes on charge from ostensibly almost completely flat BUT then struggled to start after a 15 mile ride and left standing all day. These modern AGM batteries seem to exponentially increase their internal resistance as they get towards the end of their service life.

Clever how the battery only lasts as long as the warranty / PCP deal !!!
