I mentioned 10 days or so ago that the bike ('00 1150) was running rough and vibrating more than it used to.

Well, following extensive reading of previous threads here and on other sites, I thought I'd have a go at "sinking" the throttles. Twinmax arrived this morning from Calamander. So armed with notes I set about checking the valve clearances. All going fine until the very last bit - replacing the small black rubber timing hole plug. For those of you who have meddled, you'll no doubt have guessed that my "small black rubber timing hole plug" now resides inside the cavity!!

Help! Anyone got past this level? What next?

TIA

My concern was that the damn thing was going to cause a problem if not removed. So is it OK just to buy a new one and plug the hole?

Dont worry, it will probably be lying in the bottom of the bellhousing forever, or, it will get munched up by the starter ring gear. Not make a hapeth of difference.

Getting them back in is a pain. What I did was cut a rubber washer in half and superglue it to the bung. You can then hold this with pointy nose pliers as you ease it back in the hole. Squirt of WD40 helps it go in better. Ooer missus!

Exactly the same thing happened to me. Rather than trying again and seeing another grommet dissapear into the engine I just stuck a bit of duck tape over the hole!
